dropping my contract and starting over

I have mentioned that I no longer like my Omnia. Someone said I could swap after a year, but that option is not offered to me on the VZW website.
What if I dropped my current two you contract and took out a new 2 year contract. I assume I would pay a fee for dropping, but would that cost offset the difference in the price of a new phone with contract?
Just curious.

Joey, I'm sorry you don't like your Omnia, but canceling your account just to start up a new account is not the best way to go. Reasons being you will be charged an early termanation fee up to ($175), also if you start back service under your own name it will require another credit check (which is not good for your credit score) and seeing as that you canceled your account and then started a new one you may be charged a security depoist because you will be seen as a "false churn" customer. So in the end you may be paying more. Now if you have had your phone for 1 year the customer service dept may offer you 1 year pricing instead of having to pay full retail for your phone. Now its not as cheap as the 2yr contract price, but when your acce...

Joey, I'd pay full price for a new phone, or go on Ebay and find one there. I just bought a replacement phone off there and it works really well.

Just a heads up if you go on ebay to buy a phone. Many people who have stolen phones attempt to sell them on ebay, once the buyer gets the phone and attempts to activate it they will not be able to. When a phone is reported lost or stolen Verizon locks the phone so it can only be used by the person who reported it lost/stolen. There is no other way to remove the lock. So if you go through ebay make sure you request the ESN number and call verizon to make sure it is not listed as stolen.

Very true. I am on GSM with AT&T (sadly), and I've never encountered this problem when buying phones from Ebay. I usually buy unlocked phones from power sellers.

The reason I never have had any problems is because I buy outdated phones like the Nokia 6010 that nobody wants. I guess if I were to buy say an iPhone or a Blackberry Tour, then I'd run into that problem.

With the Nokia 6010, I don't think you could give it away these days...

very true. But once a phone is put on the "hot list" it will never get removed unless the person who put it there removes it. So even if 5 years go by you still cannot activate the phone if it is still on the list. ☚ī¸
