Okay maybe I've been living under a rock here. I called customer service and was told that the NE2 Credit has gone down from $100 to $50? When did this happen? I was also told that I can upgrade now at an upgrade price even though the NE2 date isnt until 3/2010. Whats going on with THE BIG RED V

Thanks

A few months ago they switched the NE2 credit from 50/100 to 30/50. This was because of how heavily phones were already discounted, and because they are making less per contract than they were when they instituted the program.

Let's use smart phones as an example. A few years ago, you were paying $250+ for even entry level smart phones on a contract, so with your NE2, that price would drop to 150. Now entry level smart phones are 150 (50 after rebate). The cost of the phones to the consumer has dropped significantly while the cost for producing the phones has not (as costs drop, new technology is added)

So yes the NE2 credit has dropped, but phones as a whole are cheaper now than they were when the program was implemented.

How...

Thanks for the explanation it explains alot. The customer service rep also told me I can upgrade now and not get the credit or wait til my actual upgrade time and get the $50 off. I was leaning towards the HTC Ozone XV6175 but am unsure about the phone itself?

Ozone seems to be a great phone. I haven't used one personally, but everyone I know who has one (or who uses WINMO) is really excited about it. I haven't heard of many issues with it either.

I actually considered picking it up for myself, but I am going with blackberry instead since most of my company uses them so I can use BBM to get ahold of my RM.

Also, be careful about that upgrade.

If you have a 100 credit, it means that you're most likely on a plan that qualifies for an annual upgrade. This means you can upgrade every 12 months for normal 2 year pricing because you are on a high end rate plan.

However, you typically need to wait the full 20 months before you get the 2 year upgrade price + your NE2 credit. If your phone is dying now, then upgrade, but if it's fine, consider waiting so you can get the phone you want for cheaper.

When you renew your contract by annual upgrade, it pushes your NE2 date forward (to 20 months past the day you upgrade) and it will also drop it from that 100 credit to a 50 one.

A rep would have to see your account to verify, but if you were ...

The customer service rep stated that I am on a $59.99 a month plan and that I am not elegible for the $100 credit which I believe is false. I was thinking of going into a store and seeing what they said but figured if they tell me the same thing then I guess it doesnt matter.

the 59.99 plan is actually a 50 NE2 credit, under the new plan it will be 30.

To get the 100 credit, you need to be on a plan 79.99 or higher (now those plans will give you 50 when you resign)

Looks like you signed your current contract 7/20/2008 so it sounds likely that the $50 number you were told is correct as you are on a $59.99 rate plan. If you go into a retail store they can print your contract and one of the features will be the NE2 feature and should show you the $ amount you have.
