straight talk

Is it true that straight talk is using Verizon for its backbone? If so, does that mean that for $45/month, I can use a "basic" phone (eg: moto razor) and get the same (unlimited) service that I pay verizon $100/month for? If this is the case, why should/would I keep verizon? Looking for input before I make a money saving move!

You can't roam for free, and im sure there is a limit even tho it says unlimited.

It's true. Also, Page Plus is offering Unlimited Talk and Text for $39.99 also on Verizon's network. I think they are both great deals (I am not a VZW apologist). The only drawback is going to be phone selection and customer service. Is customer service worth $55 to you?

The EASY answer is NO! Right now I'm paying VZW $220/mo for unltd phone/text and broadband access. I called straight talk and they said there are NO roaming charges. They also said tho that there is no broadband access at this time. I can live w/o that tho with the proliferation of wifi all over the place! Especially if my bill drops from 220 to about 50 per month! Right now i'm using an LG Chocolate. Acc'd to Straight talk, if i get an internet phone, even the internet is included (unlimited) for the 45. - can anyone confirm? How can vzw compete against this if its true?

there might be no roaming on the native network but there will be no roaming agreements with any other company for the 50 or whatever a month. keep that in mind

So. Go to verizonwireless.com, click on coverage and then click on prepaid. THAT is Verizon's native coverage. Alltel filled in the gaps nicely didn't they? You don't need no stinkin' roaming! LOL

They won't get quite all of that. Some of the prepaid native coverage includes alltel. From what I've read, they get only native verizon towers that were there before the alltel merger.

When StraightTalk launched, they said only the phones they listed will work with their network.

Also, they don't have any 3g roaming agreements, so if your "internetphone" works, it will be at molasses speeds, and what they most likely mean by internetphone is mobile internet.

Remember, Straighttalk=Tracfone. My parents had them for years, and their CS will lie through their teeth to get people to sign on, but as soon as you have an issue, you're on your own.

I agree with what the others are saying. You'll get the whole native VZW network, which is big, but that's it. You won't get the whole Nationwide Verizon map that you see at VerizonWireless.com. That includes all of Verizon's roaming partners. Look at the map for Verizon Prepay plans and take out the parts that might show up as roaming, that's what you'll get.

True. Remember, "No Roaming" often equates to "No Signal."
