Moto Droid.. Key board Question..

Maybe I'm just not looking in the right place... but I can not figure out why when I use the "key board" for text messages there is no "auto correct" when typing.
When I use the "virtual key board" the auto correct is functional.
Am I crazy or did they really drop the ball and leave this feature out of the programing?

sometimes phones with keypads dont have auto correction cause you are prolly less likely to make a mistake. They prolly figured that if you were using the actual keyboard, you wouldn't need auto-correction.

Im totally guessing on this one, but it kinda made sense to me.

Sorry, I took the weekend off from PhoneScoop. It was a busy week, what with the Droid and all.

I can answer your question.

Android OS software provides the virtual keyboard, auto correction and all. When you use the physical keyboard, the phone is temporarily disabling the part of the Android OS that operates the virtual keyboard, and allows the hardware to control the typing instead. Because the physical keyboard is hardware-driven, and the software virtual keyboard is temporarily disabled when the slide is open, there is no auto correction.
