Multi-FRU Policy

So I purchased a Tour in July, a few weeks after release. A few weeks later the trackball went bust. I received a new device in the store. A few weeks later, same issue. I called tech and received my 3rd device. This device was activated on Aug 31.

About a week ago, the trackball went bust again, but when I called i was denied a new phone because it was more than 2 months since my previous replacement, outside the FRU policy. Is there anyway around this? I'm tired of receiving refurbs and then having them break in the same way again.

They should take it back. After the 4th one, you should be able to get the Storm 2 (if you wanted).

Well, if there are no issues with the 4th one, id be happy. I hate the fact that I have get a new device every month or two. Its a huge pain in the butt.

I have no interest in the storm, storm 2 or really any other of the blackberries. If they want to give me the droid or the eris or something like that, i might consider it.

Well, they have already sent me phone #4. I can't imagine they would trade it in without there being an issue.

Would this be an issue to speak to a local store manager after #4 phone comes? Or maybe before it actually comes

No. You will only be wasting your time and get upset when he says not a chance.

In order to qualify for multi-fru, you must have had 2 REPLACEMENTS within a 90 day time frame, and the phone must still be inside the 1 yr warranty. If you had 2 replacements,(not counting your original purchase)then you should qualify for a multi exchange, which will extend your upgrade date 20 months from the date of the replacement. Not your contract date, but your upgrade eligibility date. This is all manager's discretion. It might be worth a conversation with the manager if you keep having problems.

The OP does not qualify and even if he did he would only be able to get a new handset of the same model. Any substitution outside of that is only at the discretion of the store manager. The OP did not have two within a 90 day period so why send him in to the store to get his feelings hurt?

Oh brother! At this point what you qualify for is a CLNR Tour. Man I wish these issues had to go through the manufacturer. You know how that would go? They would REPAIR your existing phone. I swear people go on and on.

Wow! Talk about passing misinformation. Multi-Fru only gives a NEW handset of the same model. A Substitution matrix is only with a Manager's Exception and is COMPLETELY at the Manager's discretion. On top of that even if a manager decided to do such a thing the Storm 2 would not be a substitute for a Tour. The Tour is a Qwerty and the Storm 2 is a touchscreen.

Why dont you try to find out what it is that you are doing that is causing the problems with the trackball instead of blaming the replacement phones you are getting. Since you had the same problem with two brand new ones, why do you think the CLNR devices have any problems a brand new one wouldnt have?

Chances are you are doing something to the phone to cause the problem, such as putting it in your pocket and pocket lint is getting in the trackball.
