Verizon Wireless’ vaunted network may not be paying off for some users of the Droid, who are complaining about problems with call quality on their smartphones.
“There’s a problem with echo on the phone, so when someone calls you, to them it sounds like they are having a conversation with themselves,†says Heath Brashier, a Baton Rouge, Louisiana, software developer who bought his Droid, which is manufactured by Motorola, just about a week ago. “It’s happened to me twice so far.â€Â

Phones are like computers these days so yes updates will always be a factor. Doesn't matter if its on AT&T or Verizon or whether its a Blackberry, iPhone, or Droid. Updates for all.
And don't make the iPhone sound so perfect. It had issues too. And it gets updates as well. Matter of fact, the first iPhone didn't even have 3G or could send a picture message. You can't even take the battery out. Sadly the iPhone may not have software issues, but has lots of network issues. 😛
Yes, I want an iphone. I'll never have one if i have to go to AT&T to get one however. So the sooner these pretender handsets flop the better from my perspective. Although the Vphone V1 is VERY tempting.
