New Phone Advice

Ok I have been a looker on this site for some time. But now I need your advice. It is time for me to upgrade on Dec. 16 and I am not sure what phone to get. I currently have the Venus. It has been a good phone for the most part. I do not currently have internet or email on this phone but want to upgrade to the data package with new phone. I am thinking about getting the Droid but also like the HTC Eris. But now I am hearing about this other phone from HTC/Dragon but I guess there is no release date yet. I like to take my time and make sure I am getting the best phone for me.(since I will have it for two years) This will also be the last $100 credit I will get since they changed the upgrade credit. (Thanks to this forum I found this out) 🙂 I am not familiar with HTC phones. I have had LG, Motorola, Samsung and Nokia phones. I have an IPod Touch and love it. Of course I'd love the iPhone but I am not switching to AT&T. My phone is not for business. So what phone would you recommend? Should I wait to see what comes out in January? Thanks for your help.

The HTC Eris is a great basic (you could say)Android phone. The Droid is a High End (you could say) Android phone. It all depends on what you want out of it. Verzion is about to stary a buy one get one free on them, so if someone else is up for an upgrade, you could get them one for free (good Christmas Present).

I would wait and see the Dragon. You have waited this long a little longer won't hurt. But if you really want the Doid, Dell has a special offer going right now:

The OP's New Every Two would make the same phone $99.99 after rebate.

Dell's price is awesome, though, if someone were signing up an entirely new account (reading the fine print). Technically, if the OP were to go to Dell to upgrade to the Droid, they'd pay $559.99 (as stated on the web site).

It's been my experience with phones that if you wait, something better will always come by. If you buy, something better will also come by. There's no difference.

To the OP, the big difference between Dragon and what's out now is going to be hardware. Where you're coming into the Android world, the Droid or Eris will be a good start. Two years later, if you need horsepower on the same platform, look for the next "Dragon" at that time.

I am in a similar situation as the OP. Can you give some details about the Dragon? I've seen a lot of photos but not much else. Expected date?

I'm interested in both Droid and Eris but am conflicted about size v. smaller phone with no keyboard. Wonder if there will be a compromise in Q1.

Thanks to all.

If you need a keyboard, get the DROID.

If you don't need a real keyboard, and you can't wait another 10-12 weeks, get the Eris.

If you don't need a keyboard and are OK with waiting until February for the big guns, hold out for the Dragon.

If super-fast email delivery is critical for you, look at the BlackBerry Tour. Android can't touch BB for email delivery and Outlook integration.

If you just want a decent web browser and basic email but don't care about on-board Apps, get an enV Touch and keep your iPod in your other pocket for gaming.
