Oh man... I'm torn apart...
but damnit, the Droid is the first touch screen phone I think is good. Not eligible for an upgrade, so pricing is keeping me from making the jump big time.
Just curious... any fellow crackberry addicts jump ship? How is the device?
The biggest thing that makes me want one is I heard battery life is much longer... I need confirmation of someone that used a Tour vs Droid in real life...
Battery life I would say is similar.. It's hard for me to compare because I actually use my Droid for active web searching instead of just looking up a random thing or two.. honestly, if it wasn't for Hulu and my games, I couldn't justify paying for home internet this phone's browser is so good. Even using it for active browsing, podcast listening, music, a 2 hour movie, and texting (and this weird thing called phone calls) I get a good day and a half out of it.
For example, I am currently at 40% battery life. The last time I plugged in my phone was 1day 14hours and 18 minutes ago. I also charged my blackberry about e...

I can go to basically any site I want from my phone, get all my email, etc.
The droid uses a html5 broswer, meaning that websites look the same on it as they do on a computer screen (mainly)
if you are reading something formatted for mobile phones, you won't have to zoom at all. If it's not mobile formatted, you can double tap and it will zoom into the size of the column/picture automatically.
It's a lot easier to navigate the web on a webkit mobile browser. (and you can do pinch/zoom with some third party apps)
I would HIGHLY recommend against trying to tether without paying for it. If you use the option a lot, verizon will catch you and bill you per Kilobyte for data used (at the very least they will auto term your contract and bill you retro-actively for tethering).
Don't really like the touch BB's.
Ok here's where it get's weird. 😳
I just recently started using the Tour, previous to it I was using a Moto Droid, and today just ordered another Moto Droid. 😕
Confused yet?
I returned my original Droid because of bad call quality. Picked up the Tour and it's of course great (running 5.0). But after using the internet, voice search, Google map (w/the touch screen) and a software update coming soon that's suppose to address the call quality with the Droid, I'm going to give it another shot.
Now the physical keyboard on the Droid abso...

the Moto Sholes lookes interesting as well (full touchscreen android 2.0 with HDMI out)
Today Saygus told Phone Scoop that its V1 Android handset -- to be branded as the VPhone -- will be Verizon Wireless' first Open Development Initiative handset. The V1 boasts some impressive specs, and is just "days" away from certification on Verizon's network. The stand-out feature of the VPhone is going to be a video sharing service that will allow two people to share a live, two-way video feed. It will also be able to act as a Wi-Fi router, similar to the Novatel MiFi. According to the Saygus web site, the VPhone has a 3.5-inch, 800 x 480 pixel, high resolution capacitive touch display. It is powered by a 624MHz processor, has a 5 megapixel main camera and a VGA camera that faces users. ...

I had every HTC model from the XV6600 through the XV6850. I had every Samsung from the i700 through the Omnia. I had the Moto Q (oddly, my favorite of the bunch, considering how many didn't like it all that much). I was a Windows fanatic.
And then, I finally bought a Blackberry Curve. I had too many people asking me questions about it that I just couldn't answer. To say my eyes were opened is an understatement. I tried the Pearl (didn't like it), and had the World Edition for a while, too. I waited and dragged my feet on the Storm, but finally got it for the same reasons I got the Curve (plus movie watching). After a month, I ...

And then, I was handed the Droid.
Oh. My. Hell.
Pretty much the best way to describe it I've read, and it was my response when I got it.
Unlike Epik, I was NOT a motorola fan. In fact, I would do everything I could to talk people out of getting motorola's (or at the very least promote another phone first).
I was really excited about Verizon getting android when it first leaked, but when I found out Motorola would be the manufacturer, i was CONVINCED that it would fail, and I was mad because I wanted a "cool" platform on the network.
But then reviews came out and they weren't that bad, most were in love with the phone. And then I got to try one myself..
$600 lighter, I am still exceedingly happy with my purchase.
The last good Motorola, in my opinion, was the E815. After that, I would do my hardest to talk anyone out of Motorola. Epik was an early opponent of the "Razr-era" Motorola, even when people were trying to tell me otherwise. I had the Q, which I considered a completely different device in regards to the direction the company was going. Ironically, I had to win the Q by selling a certain number of Motorola Razrs one month. I just about damned my soul doing it.
I, too, was leery of the first Verizon Android phone being Motorola. After wrestling with it for a while, I decided to give it a try before final judgment. I didn't think the company was going to hand me one, but when they did, it didn't take long for me to real...

I love the platform and I think in the long run it will be a huge thorn in both Apple's and Blackberries collective side. But for now? Its just not effcient enough for me personally. It takes a little to long to perform basic tasks which is the main reason I won't be looking at Android right now.
If you are a seasoned berry user and do heavy texting, messaging, twittering, etc...I just think the droid may not be for you.
Chris
And about the vphone, who are you going to be video calling with?
I figured I'm gonna stick with BB for awhile... I talked to a bunch of my friends and it seems that if I jump ship I'll be alone for a long while since they all just got into the BB scene... BBM has me locked down for now...
Plus, a little birdy told me that Google will release the voice version of Google Maps for the BB later on.
I think I'm just gonna stick to BB until all my friends leave. I don't feel like being the first one to go to a new device this time.
