Anyone Feel Betrayed?

So Verizon finally gets a "cool phone" and lots of pub. Enter: Nexus One. So how do you Droid users feel right now?

Nothing really to feel betrayed about. The specs list it as a GSM device so it won't be coming to Verizon.

I won't feel betrayed for awhile, since I REALLY like my Droid. Definitely the best phone I have ever owned. I just hope I don't drop the darn thing now.

The Droid was the latest and greatest Android device. And now? It won't be.

Yes I know but I won't leave Verizon simply to get a better phone.

I dont really know why you are complaining man. The spec's are about the same and the Droid has a fantastic processor that will allow it to be upgradeable to anything that the "Nexus One" will run.

No reason to be mad here. The droid will be every bit as good as the gphone. And most likely this will just be released as unlocked dev phone for tmobile.

Also, the design sucks! Its basic, and not very attractive...again, not jealous.

The only cool part about this phone is that it might be able to run on both Tmob and Att 3G bands. That could be a game changer.

Enjoy your Droids folks!

PS--Verizon is getting this phone anyway, its codenamed the HTC passion. Basically the same as the gphone. And it should run Sense UI

I am not complaining. I do not even own a Droid. I was just polling the VZW crowd.

Based on the specs for the Nexus, and the fact that its GSM and currently only being sold unlocked, its hard to feel betrayed.

I waited what feels like a long time for a touchscreen phone to come out with a screen bigger than 3.2", this Nexus lists a 3.2" touchscreen, so for me not even a phone I would consider.

I'll tell you why the Nexus excites me. I'm sure a few others here would agree with me.

The prospects of an unsubsidized device available for multiple networks, with the marketing power of Google, could very well bring about the end of the subsidy system (eventually).

I get paid when a phone sells in my store. But let me tell you why I would rather have a manufacturer deal with the customer so I can provide service instead:

1) I don't have to stock the phone.
2) I don't have to market the phone.
3) I don't have to handle the technical support.
4) Verizon not subsidizing the phone means the company spends less, which means more money for my paycheck.
5) Verizon not handling the warranty process means less spending; more profit ...

I agree. I have argued for unsubsidized handsets forever. However I maintain that the carriers (with the possible exception of T-Mobile) LIKE subsidizing handsets so that they can lock customers into contracts and thus depend on revenue for twenty-four months (usually).

they like subsidizing because it's the only way they have right now to keep customers. If verizon said tomorrow "alright, we're lowering the price on all new contracts by 50%, however, we're no longer offering Subsidized handsets, I'd bet that they would LOSE money.

Customers expect phones to be free. Until they start expecting something else, it's going to be pretty hard for a carrier to do otherwise.

The way this wacky industry works, there will almost always be something way, way better 2 or 3 months away unless you're stuck on iPhone and refuse to entertain other alternatives.

That's just the way it is. Get the latest and greatest when you can, then suck it up for a year or so, then do it again.

There's just know way to be on the leading edge all the time unless you only want one breed of phone and the breeder only makes one model at a time.
