Is it just me or is that funny? I really want an Iphone, but I'll wait because what kind of company doesn't want people to use their network? Verizon might not have the hottest phones but at least they never told me not to use my data on my blackberry!

Hardly! I own a Verizon store and won't give up my iPhone for the Droid.

Let us assume that it does. It took Apple to break Motorola and Verizon out of their pathetic business as usual uninspiring phones and service.

If that "Crapple iPhone" had not come along, do you really believe the Doid would be as wonderful as it is?

Dig on Apple all you like, hate the iPhone all you want, but it is hard to disprove how it changed the phone landscape.

Uh, no. If it were not for the iphone, I doubt Verizon would even allow a phone like the Droid on its network.

I am not "hating on" the iphone. Long before the existence of the almighty iphone, AT&Ts dropped calls and GSM's bad call quality existed. That being said, there is A LOT that the iphone doesn't do (no Droid reference intended). I myself, prefer Palm or Blackberry to anything Apple. I have a friend whose Macbook's hard drive died 3 times in less than a year. I'd rather not spend over $1,000 on a laptop that does that, thanks. And frankly, if the iphone "caused" Verizon to "allow" the existence of the Droid (highly suspect...) then isn't that a good thing?

Why is that logic suspect? What impetus would Verizon have to permit a phone that isn't running their wounded OS unless there was economic disincentive otherwise? The iPhone was that disincentive; continue business as usual with the risk of customers flocking to AT&T for the iPhone, or find a way to compete.

They found a way to compete. And apparently, they've listened to customer complaints about wounding their phones and crippling the OS. Good for Verizon, seems almost free-market like.

As far as not liking anything Apple, that's your choice. I've had wonderful luck with their products.

I don't hate all things Apple. I have an ipod, my kids have ipod touches - I'm not anti Apple, and I think the iphone is amazing at what it does. It's just not the be-all-and-end-all some people make it out to be, that's all. Quite frankly, the ipod touch is nice without that crappy AT&T phone network so all is well in the world.

Hmmmmm...if I can get a Saygus Vphone and ipod Touch to link to it... Ah, the possibilities. Why do I get the feeling that I will never see a Vphone or an iphone on Verizon?

It sure is. As an owner of the V710, I can tell you that never in a million years did I believe Verizon would allow an open handset on its network. I am glad the iphone sells like it does. Even if Verizon never gets it, it is just great that it exists.
