Alright, since there are a handful of threads talking about the idiocy (or thoughtfulness) of the new data requirements/plans. If you are going to complain/extol those changes, please use one of the other countless threads that are here about it already, or one of the many more sure to follow.

The purpose of this thread is to discuss what we think might be next. I, as well as others, think that this is just the first step in some sweeping changes. Please keep it realistic (as in, it's HIGHLY unlikely that Verizon will match tmobiles plans anytime soon)

I'd just like to see what my other phonescooper's have in mind.

It should go without saying that if you actually know something, don't reveal the information here.

Some of m...

they do.. but unless I'm mistaken, you have to qualify for it.

I'm talking that, with these changes, you'll see it advertised more.

I think minute "bundles" would also go pretty far in calming people down. have like an extra 200 min cost 10 or something.. still cheaper than the 900 plan, but not quite the same value.

Connect plans are gone. If you have it now, then keep it. They grandfathered already. As far as calming people down......if youb don't like the changes then spend your money elsewhere, not trying to be rude, just being real. Nobody hears complaints, they see the lack or the decrease revenue then changes are made. That is why these were made, lose of revenue. No other changes for the forseeable future.

see here's the issue. they might get a ton of people signing up for their new unlimited option, but how many people will they lose to the new data requirement? heck, they might even lose select plans from this (why give your kid unlimited texting on a 5500?) I see that lost revenue being a lot higher than anything gained by people jumping 10 from the 900 to unlimited plan, and I don't see that many parents getting their kids an android because it's "just 20 more a month than an EnV3"

I'm convinced that within five years we'll be looking at voice (though VOIP), as an add-on feature rather than the primary monthly cost. Just like we add or subtract VZ Navigator or Ringback Tones today, with the advent of 4G we'll be given the choice of adding or removing voice services. We'll pay a flat rate for initial service, and then select which features we want from there.

I think this too. Maybe once we move to a PPU idea towards data (as in, we don't have "unlimited" plans) they can make Tethering included with data packs? I mean, 5GB is 5GB if it's on your phone, or if it's tethered.

VOIP is going to be huge for people. Not only because it will make billing a lot simpler (you pay for data alone) but because it should bottom out the prices of international calling to something in line with what computer VOIP offers instead of the 1.99/min+ it can be

$1.99 sounds more like roaming. International LD should not be that expensive unless ypu're calling North Korea.

Calling Chad from the US is $2.58/minute.

Many countries seem to be about $1.49/minute, but some are less and some are more. I think Menno was referring to an estimated $1.99/minute for long distance from the US to other countries.

Hopefully they will keep inferior networks running for those of us who want no part of 4G tiered pricing. Just a phone. Just a phone.

2G CDMA is still the best voice transmission technology available. The 3G network will get torn down before the 2G network does. As long as the 700 MHz and 1900 MHz bands hold enough capacity to support the LTE demand, don't expect 2G to go away for at least 10 years.

Besides, what gives with the hate for a "rational" pricing structure? Use more, pay more. Use less, pay less. Sounds like the most SANE approach to product pricing I've seen in this industry for years!

It seems like all the panic-stricken folks out there think tiered pricing means a $80 floor + $20/GB or something else ridiculous.

There is no sense at all in passing judgment until actual #'s for the LTE pricing are published!

Across all carriers, we're going to see big changes in voice plan structures. They're going to keep dropping in price, but the data side of things will keep accelerating. The actual consumer cost per GB of data will drop, but actual consumption of data will rise way faster then the prices drop and people will start writing bigger overall checks every month as a result of cellular data connections. This is not likely to change unless personal usage habits change, which is unlikely in a world where mobile video conferencing is not only possible but high quality, economical and easy to do.

From VZW, within the next 12 months you'll see that all handsets with 3G antennas in them are either QWERTY boards or have HTML browsers on-board. 2G ...

I know what side I am on: LG-VX7000 with LG-VX6100 as back up. I have two LG-VX8100s and an LG-VX8300 which I am sort of afraid to go to since they are 3G.

There are specific phones on the 3G Multimedia Phone list. All of the phones on the list are currently sold in store. None of those phones you mentioned are on it.

Epik, that is the point. I am well stocked on 1x phones (7000 and 6100) and even 3G phones which may circumvent the data plan requirement.

Unlimited Blackberry $34.99

Do they no longer offer this? It was basically Unlimited Email and Web for Blackberry with $.25 per minute for voice. If one could do VoIP on a smartphone this would be pretty cool.

I think that they are preparing to migrate to LTE in the future. They will keep the 1x network up for basic phones and everyone else will be using dual mode Rev A/LTE handsets and the One Voice standard (which they announced as their preferred path a few months ago). If One Voice is not feasible initially then they will go with Voice over LTE via Generic Access (VoLGA). Either way this is going to be quite exciting to watch in its execution and that is all I plan to do is watch.

I believe once they have this sorted out th...
