Data plan???

I just got back from the Verizon store and wanted to confirm something I was told. I wanted to get a Treo 600 and I was told that I had to get a voice calling plan AND a data plan at about $90/month. All I want is a PDA/phone combo that can do text messaging. I don't want to browse the web and I don't want to get my email through the phone. Anybody have more info on this?

Thanks.

You do need a data plan, you do need to pay for accessing the national access network. you should have the pay as-you-go kilo byte feature added when you activate the treo. The billing system will only allow activation of a smartphone with the addition of a data package--- so if you're not going to access the net then the pay as you go package will suffice.

If you do add the pay as you go kilo byte feature make sure you call WDTS and have them show you how to shrink and move the window of when the treo "pushes" data automatically. Be sure to call them not from the treo but from another phone.
