In 2.5 hours we'll be able to put much of the speculation about what's in store for Apple to rest. This topic has consumed most of the conversation on many tech and mobile related sites, and while the conversation will likely increase in the wake of what's actually announced, at least in a few hours we'll all know (or think we know) what's we're talking about.

Worse. "Here's our new toy, and, oh, it's GSM".
...
It appears that the base model is Wi-Fi and one may pay extra to add the 3G. I don't see why one could not use a MiFi with this thing or the Palm Pre Plus and it's over-priced $40 tether app.
...
I rather have my dick slammed in a drawer then be sentenced to having use att pathetic network.
...
I'm 🤣 because this just means it's going to be much harder for you to make a call, use data, etc. Hahaha!!

I was too busy watching it all while getting ready for work to bother posting.
That being said: a let down in some ways, no surprise in others. I was hoping for something to come Verizon's way, but with a lack of viable information, the best I could expect was an interesting device, for sure.

With verizon getting snubbed on the ipad do I smell an extended exclusivity with att. i have doubts of an iphone now with verizon until 2012 with a good LTE rollout...kinda sucks with BGR reporting yesterday something is up with apple and verizon it was easy to get your hopes up, and I don't even care about the iphone. I did play with the PRE today and some dog on it, but i liked it alot.
...
Hahahaha...yeah, denied. XD
...
Well I guess I'll be trying out the ATT network. I never have before so I just hope all the bad stories don't come true for me. I found myself dreaming about the IPHONE last night, and just can't go on another day without the IPHONE. I put myself to bed last night reading all the stellar reviews about it, and I'm just so disappoint that verizon will never have it, or not anytime soon at least.

You really should have switched long before now. Life is too short to deprive yourself of love. Where do you live? You may find that AT&T works just fine for you and their prices are the same as Verizon for the most part. They've continued to follow the Stan Sigman model of 'imitation is the sincerest form of flattery'.
...
Thanks.
I live in Seattle, Washington. I will get the temporary numbers and give it a go for the 30 days. I'm very excited to get an IPHONE, but nervous about ATT. I'm very comfortable with Verizon as my provider, but want an IPHONE more!

I would not jump the gun so fast. Other articles that I have read have pointed to the fact that there may be a CDMA Iphone in the works for July of this year. Most of those articles anticipate an announcement in May (2 months not 6 months, as in right now, before availability) of a Verizon Iphone model.
I would wait until early May before going with an Iphone or a Moto Droid if no Iphone announcement had been made by that time.

I hate to be a killjoy, but Scott has deprived himself long enough. What if he sticks around until July and Verizon does not get the iphone? I'm not an AT&T-phile, but I am not ashamed to say that I do like the iphone a lot. Tomorrow is not promised to any of us. I think Scott should at least take the 30 day trial with an AT&T number and if things work out, port his number afterward.
...
He could get the newest version of the Ipod Touch which is basicly an Iphone minus the GSM phone? Just a thought.

1 more parting thought that just came to my mind. I was a little suspicious about the rumors about an Iphone for Verizon this soon (-6 months) before earliest availability. Look at it from this angle . . . if Apple had announced that in 6 months Verizon would be getting the next version of the Iphone, then AT&T sales of the current Iphones would tank faster than Captain Kirk could beam me down. Just think Iphone sales would stall, and both Apple and AT&T would suffer six long excruciating months of poor sales. It would make one wish he or she could be water-boarded. 🙂
It would make a lot more sense to announce it 6-8 wks before letting it come to market. Oh, I just realize that this Apple tablet announcement came about 6-8 wks pri...

You are probably right. but should Scott gamble on a hunch or go get the device his heart pines for RIGHT NOW? I think the answer is obvious.

In fact... If I were Scott, I would bum-rush AT&T on my lunch break.

Verizon itself would sell very little until then, too.
...
That is so true. All those consumers would hoard their eligibility until the iphone showed up. More importantly, potential new subscribers would wait as well.

I do not want to sound like I am raining on your parade, but just remember that Verizon is doing the same thing -- improving its network at the same time.
Living here in South Carolina, I grew up always wondering when we would no longer be at the bottom of the SAT score rankings. My 10th grade world history teacher once explained it very well.
You see every year we are improving our SAT scores, but we are not trying to catchup with someone who is standing still on the street corner, but the other person is also running in the same direction we are. We are trying to catch up with someone who is also running hard, and not standing still.
The mistake that AT&T made the last few yrs is that they did not spend as much money as Verizon ...

Oh. You are not raining on my parade. I have Verizon service. But not everyone needs the Network. They just don't. No one has ever outspent Verizon. They've been bragging about the money they pour into their network since the merger that created Verizon. My point is that if Scott lives in a metropolitan area (unlike me) then he should give AT&T a shot. The guy has been asking about Verizon getting an iphone for at least two months now and probably longer than that. I am in a poor AT&T area and one night...I was online...I almost pulled the trigger. I had the shakes and everything. In fact...I'm tearing up even now. Life is so unfair.
...
Point well taken.
Now don't get too emotional on me now. If your tears land on your computer and damage it, then buying top of the line Iphone will look better than replacing the computer you have now.
BTW, which phone do you have with Verizon at the current time?
I was joking with my brother when he came up from Florida a few wks ago and saw my Droid (he and his wife have an Iphone with you know who). I said that if I am on the 630 news soon it would because I would be charged with an accessory to murder because my phone killed the Iphone 🙂 .
He played with my Droid for a whole day and before he left he said, "I'm impressed."
It took a lot for him to say that, believe you me.
My wife who has a storm 1 phone has always ...

I have the 8330 and XV6900. I use the XV6900 for tethering mostly. As an ex-employee I had four lines but now that I am no longer working there these phones are too expensive. I just canceled one line last night and I am grappling with switching my Curve over to the LG-VX7000 I just disconnected. At this rate, I do not plan to upgrade to anything. My XV6900 is out of contract and I am considering just getting DSL at home for $19.99 and letting it go.

It's like investing in the gold market...

I miss my first verizon phone from Sept 2001 - Motorola V120c because it outperformed all of my LG phones since then in RF reception. The only reason I have not bought another Motorola phone after wards was due to the less than stellar workmanship of the plastic-ky appearance of other Moto phones. I really jumped at the chance to buy my Moto Droid and I have not looked backed since then.
The only place where I have consistently dropped calls on my LG phones have been in the local Ingles store. If I had a question about something on my shopping list I would call my wife and almost always not finish my call with her from inside the store -- opps dropped that call.
So far on my Droid (4 wks old) I have not had a single dropped call fro...

I just can't do it. I guess I've blind loyalty to a fault. Some people think you should have zero loyalty to carrier, whatever works works! But I just like Verizon too much to go anywhere else even for the IPHONE. I just hope and pray for an announcement in May.

you made the right decision i live in Seattle too and tried the iphone for fun, bottom line is att blows it can't hold a candle to verizon. the iphone will come to verizon it's just a matter of time, your life will be complete at a later date 😁

Oh man. Loyalty?! To a wireless carrier?! 🙄 *Sigh*
