I just added the $10/25Mb plan to my phone. not a smart phone, just a samsung alias 2. I wanted to start using mobile web and e-mail features and I was afraid that without a plan, my bill would skyrocket. when I added it,, I saw this (besides the added data plan)

Add features:

MOBILE WEB $0 $0.00
DATA ROAM RESTRICT - $0 $0.00
GENERAL IP ADDRESS $0 $0.00

Remove Features:

NATL ENHANCED SVC ACCESS $0 $0.00

this seemed OK since it was all zeroes, right?

then I started to worry, and I googled some of these things -- it occurred to me that I was getting billed for airtime instead of data before -- before I added the data plan, I had done things like browse & buy ringtones, send cameraphone pics to the web, brows...

Doozy meaning you're stumped, or Doozy meaning I screwed up? I'm afraid customer care will lie to me. 🙄

You went from minute-based data sessions to megabyte-based data sessions. You won't notice data sessions going against your minutes anymore. The base megabyte cost is $1.99 per megabyte, but you've essentially got 25 to use before accruing any additional costs. After the 25 megabytes has been expended, you'll be billed per megabyte at your overage cost, which escapes me at the moment.

As far as going back, I'm honestly not sure. I was under the impression that data packages shouldn't be required with Alltel customers, but have a feeling that you might be stuck.

I don't work for these guys anymore, but it sounds like you just increased your bill $9.99. Which WAS your intention after all. Now with the National Enhanced Service feature you were being billed voice air-time for data (which the Big Red V HATES by the way). I can't say for certain that they won't change your features back, but I honestly doubt that National Enhanced Service is even available anymore. It is a grandfathered feature.

If you had "NATL ENHANCED SVC ACCESS," that tells me that you're still on the America's Choice II plans. Nationwide plans do not use the "NATL ENHANCED SVC ACCESS" feature, or "SFO" in internal lingo. The Alias 2 is not a phone that required a move to the nationwide plan. However, it did become a "3G Multimedia Phone" recently and now requires data for NEW activations, but you obviously purchased yours before this changed. This means that you CAN take the $9.99 25MB data feature off, which would automatically put NATL ENHANCED SVC ACCESS back on your account, because you never actually changed your price plan. As such, if you took off this feature you would return to per-minute browsing as you were before.

The NATL ENHANCED SVC ACCES...

Thanks, epik -- I went to cancel it, though, and I got this:

Add Features
Data Package Unlimited with Mobile Email $29.99/month
This is required by GENERAL IP ADDRESS $0 .

Remove Features

Data Package 25MB with Mobile Email $9.99/month

Total change in monthly recurring charges: $20.00/month

Looks like I should call customer care to cancel it?

I may just keep it, since it includes mobile e-mail, which is what I wanted in the first place -- I actually thought i was going to have to pay an extra 5 a month for that, but I just got a text that said it was included...I know I seem like a ninny who can't decide what he wants -- my wife said "what the f--- do you need mobile e-mail for anyway -- when are you...

He's on an Alltel converted plan. And I don't think he can go back due to the new data requirement.
