Effective today, in the VZW South Area, any customer that was converted from Alltel to VZW in the merge, and is still using an Alltel device, can now upgrade to a new handset at discount pricing with a new 2 year contract.

apparently you keep your old call plan(just the minutes) at the same price, then you have to pay for anything else beyond that. so it's really not that great of a deal at all.

If they were using this scheme to get them out of those old Alltel plans, it would make even more sense. Still, just getting them out of some of those Alltel handsets will probably be satisfactory. I hated pulling up an account and seeing some monstrosity that I'd never heard of from 2003.
