Does anyone know or have any clue as to when the Nexus One from Google will be dropping onto the Big Red? I mean why does it take so long to get this phone when ATT and Tmobile have it already.

Thanks

Because tmo and att models are basically the same except for the 3g bands. With verizon using cdma, it may require a little more testing and time. Plus I think google is working more closely with verizon on this one that they did with att.

That phone or the other new HTC (or both) should be out in the next 30-45 days.

Remember, Nexus One is a Google device. I've confirmed with several sources internally that Verizon has no intention of selling it in their stores. This is Google's baby, just like the AT&T and T-Mobile versions. I expect that also means you'll be subject to their sales requirements (new single line), unless you buy it unsubsidized.

Yeah I am aware of that however the HTC device is supposed to be the better of the two? I stated once that I was thinking of getting the Storm and after my boy who works for Verizon here in Massachusetts and all of his coworkers stopped laughing I was told to look into the Google devices. I know the HTC has the HTC touch technology but does that mean its better ...

With the Droid by Motorola, The HTC Desire and Nexus One by Google....Which do you all think is the best? And I know you mentioned that it would be out in the next 30-45 days I may be better off going with the phone thats coming out directly with Verizon...Thoughts?

Well, especially if you want to use that NE2 that became available on March 15th. You won't have NE2 when buying a phone through Google.

The Motorola Droid is clearly the best of the three that are out right now directly on Verizon. No one can tell you anything about the CDMA Nexus One, because no one has used one yet.

If "getting the best phone, even if you have to wait a few weeks longer" is your thought process, you may never buy a phone again because there will almost always be something better or comparable coming out less then 2 months in the future.

On that note, what about that HTC Incredible...

HTC makes both devices. The hardware differences will be minimal, at best (mostly processor, camera level). The software difference is minimal, too, unless you're a big fan of HTC's Sense User Interface, which comes stock on HTC-branded phones. The Nexus is made by HTC, but a Google-branded model, so it's not going to have Sense UI on it.

Sense UI is like an all-encompassing theme pre-loaded on top of the Android operating system. It's intended to be a more widget-friendly experience, though Android itself is already very widget-friendly as it is.

I have customer confusing the term "Google Device" every day. Google makes Android operating system, just like Microsoft makes Windows Mobile, or Research In Motion makes Blackberry, or ...

So in essence the Droid name is just that a name....The HTC is a "Google Android" phone developed by HTC for Verizon or whomever using Google's OS.

Yes. Droid was the marketing name for Verizon's first android phones.

The N1 is a "Google Phone" meaning it's their baby, and whenever google makes a new toy their baby will always get it first. It's made by HTC, but they don't control the software.

The eris and incredible are "Sense" devices, meaning that HTC controls both the hardware and the software, and the software will look different from say a droid or N1.

Basically, there are three broad "levels" to android. one is not inherently "superior" to the other. They are: (in order from least carrier/handset maker intervention to most)

Google Device: The N1. phones that are requested by, and sold through, Google.

Stock: Phones running a "vanilla" version of Googles O...

😳

That smiley pretty much describes this whole thing to me. Totally and utterly confusing. I just think that the HTC Incredible is supposed to be a sweet phone and was just confused as to the main difference between the hardware on the Nexus One (Which I now know is Google's baby) and the HTC Incredible (Which I know is HTC's baby) I read that they are almost identical to one another.

Those two have basically identical hardware. the difference between then is Software. N1 is stock android, incredible will have the SenseUI, a slightly better camera (who knows if it will take better pictures though)

I'm a Moto Droid user. The flashlight on the droid (its a free app that you have to get) is better than any other flashlight feature i've found on a cellphone.

It will have a similar browser. there is no version of 2.1 with sense officially available. They used a custom browser in the eris because at that time, android didn't support multitouch, but the eris did. It should be a similar browser to the droid/N1, but no official word on what it will be to my knowledge.

It should come with flash lite.. but later this summer it will get 10.1

Any realease date at all for either the N1 or the HTC Incredible? Anything at all rumors? I have been elegible for my NE2 since 3/15/10, I had originally had the Eris but thought the phone was slow...

Nothing on either one of those. And remember, the N1 is sold by Google, not verizon, so NE2 doesn't count.

Not sure. maybe something to do with Runtime of sense? The droid was underclocked as well. (which is why it is so stable at "OC" 800MHz)

I know that under clocking makes it less likely that you'll have the device overheat (which is important when you are running the navigator+ Pandora on a car charger, as my droid did get very hot before I rooted and set up power profiles.

Yeah

I wasn't happy with the Eris at all...I loved the form factor of the phone though...Which is what I am hoping the Incredible is like
