I was just reading an article from CNET (granted not the greatest place for cellphone news, I Know) and much to my surprise they was at the CTIA 2010 and stated that Verizon never really mentioned anything new on the handset front...So I ask you all....Do you all think that Verizon's lineup of phones was better a year ago than it is today or vice-versa? Granted Verizon's added some Droid phones but a buddy of mine was singing the praises of Verizon Wireless...Maybe cause he's an employee....Thoughts anyone?

Well, I've been with Vz since '95 and can tell you that their lineup is far better than it's ever been before, and their corporate culture seems to have changed somehow, their much more open to new ideas and change. Over the last year they've added a lot of cutting edge devices in the Android family, most notably the Droid which I think is a world class phone and has single handedly brought Moto back from the brink. However, I also happen to think that the 3 sexiest phones on the planet are with other carriers: the iPhone, HD2 and Evo.
Now I know Vz will get the Incredible and I'm sure it will live up to it's name but it seems to me that the trend for higher end phones is going towards larger, more like MID's; look at what's coming from ...

Here, here! Verizon has an Android phone?! Are you serious?! Verizon?! The carrier who fans of other carries could always point to and claim they "lock down phones" has Android? I did not believe it until it happened and I am still not sure this is not all the delusions of a madman. That being said, they still have not approved the Saygus Vphone so the lineup COULD be better. And I am sure Scott will mention...nevermind.

even against newer devices, the Droid still holds its own IMO (even at 2.01). Yes, the Evo beats the pants off it, but sprint needs a device like that right now.

Compared to a year ago, the lineup is MUCH better.

A year ago, when someone said 'I want a smartphone" I would say: "Here are the blackberries" We have the Curve, which is old, the Pearl, which looks like a toy, and the Storm which you've most likely heard people complain about even though it wasn't that bad. (Never bothered with WINMO since in the two years I worked for a verizon retailer, I had maybe 5 people interested in it)

Now when they say that, I can say: what are you looking for? We offer Blackberries, Android, and WebOS (though webos isn't that popular). We...

I agree with you about the Droid; really nice phone, beautiful screen. My personal preference for now is the Eris but since my NE2 isn't until Oct there will be a lot of water under the bridge by then-lol. Last year seemed to be Big Red's year, a ton of new and great phones; they seem to be in a 'resting' phase for now, kinda digesting their gains until the next round of upgrades to the market. HTS's two new 'huge' phones seem to be pointing the way the market will go, at least for a while until the fad wears off, but at 3.7 screen size for most of the new phones this seems to be the new normal size for now. Even Apple is coming to this party. Personally I like it.

I mean unless they were going to announce an LTE handset that could go head-to-head with the Evo...any other announcement would have been underwhelming.
