Droid Incredible??

tesscat

Apr 25, 2010, 5:05 PM
Hello, I'm a new member, didn't even realize this board existed. Where have I been? OK, I can upgrade and like the Incredible. I've never had a Smartphone and don't really need to have data, but I would like to use the web and especially like the camera at 8MP's.
Questions:
-does anyone know how long a video it will record?
-somewhere I read video playback wasn't good?
-the price right now is $99, do you think it will be less or free once it's released?

Thanks

--Video is usually depenedent on memory. More memory=longer vids

--The stock android video player isnt that great, but you can download others from the Android market. No biggie there.

--Price is $199 after rebate (Not $99), it will not be less than that anytime soon. Its arguably the best Android device in the world right now, so Verizon will milk this for everything its worth.

Milk it until the Evo stomps it, oh yeah. 😉

Seriously though, with a phone this powerful, I doubt the price will drop soon. Especially since HTC's Touch Pro 2 is in the $299.99 price range.

and the Evo will be great untill the next one comes out.. Case in point I had someone all upset because they got a moto droid 3 weeks ago and when they got it the store rep didn't tell him that the incredible would be coming out at the end of the month.. Hah I wanted to laugh but kindly explained that we can not do his research for him, and that there will also be a better phone on the way.

Just think of what would happen of everyone always held out for the next 'better' phone. 🙂

Yeah, I expect that within a month after the Evo is released, another phone will be announced that kicks its tail. I'm just enjoying bragging rights while I can. 😁

I've had my Droid for just over a month, and am still very, very happy with mine. I have no desire for an Android smartphone that has no physical slideout keyboard! So for that reason the Incredible doesn't appeal to me.

P.S. Welcome to Phone Scoop!!!

Thanks,

Glad you like it. I have been lurking for years and saw your posts about the possibility of you getting it. 🙂

Yeah, Menno answered a lot of my questions prior to me taking the Android/Droid plunge. I came from having the Nokia N95, and (as you may know) was with ATT for 8yrs. I have no complaints about ATTs network, only complaint is that they essentially cut Androids balls off with that retard/deformed thing called the Backflip.

Thanks for your responses. I would pay $99 because of my upgrade. I can't decide between the Incredible and the Palm Pre plus( I like that it slides up). The camera at 8MP is the item swaying me to the Incredible. I'm not much of tech person, so all the bells and whistles are probabbly going to be lost on me. I do surf the web on the computer (not much else except emailing, some photo stuff)I assume the phone will be about the same; talk, text, surf, camera and video( I'd love if the camera/video would turn out to be great at concerts and farther away pics/video) If I have to pay $30 for data( that gets me unlimited, right?) then I'd use it for surfing unless I learn everything the phone offers.

Yes $29.99 for the data. The only downside of cameras on mobile phones is the size of the optics. The MP may be very high but will still not compair to a normal digital camera.

what besides the camera do you want to do on your phone? Btw I have seen 80 year olds with Blackberries so I'm sure you can pickup on the android OS if you put some time into learning it.

Reading your post where you wrote that you've seen 80y/o's with BB's gave me chills, I just think it's so awesome when older folks embrace technology. My soon to be 58y/o mother also uses a Droid (she's on my acct).

The father of the cellphone, Martin Cooper, who is 81, also is currently using the Droid.

And a Jitterbug. Of course, his wife founded that company. But you should read some of his quoted statements these past few years about smartphones - he doesn't like them all too much. He says he carries one because reporters always expect he has the latest and greatest, and I'm sure he gets some kickback for having one, but in all he really doesn't think that phones and PDAs should have ever merged.

Wow that's kinda dissapointint! I do remember him saying that when he invented the cellphone, that digital camera didn't exist, and that he didn't envision all these things being built-in to one box.

On a sidenote, I just downloaded a drawing app!!! And oh boy am I having fun!!! Firs I drew 32 minutes til 11 (I get off @ 11), then I drew Oh yeah in blue electric letters, and then I drew some 😁 boobs 😁, I'm liking this drawing app!!!

You need to update your profile! 🙂

I didn't even bother with PhoneScoop for about a year after I started with the company. Back in those days, we could post and read Phonescoop all we wanted. Then they banned the site for a while, but later brought it back for the phone database. You still can't log in and post, but why someone would be stupid enough to do THAT is beyond me. You might as well call HR and tell them your online handle.

Now I am looking forward to a (Droid2?) that's packing 700mhz LTE!!!! One month @ a time, I'm waiting til Nov. 2011. But I'm not interested in something with a 4.3in screen!!! That is just too, too big for a "cellphone"

With the data access, you will definatly get a lot of use out of the phone. I got the Moment thinking that I just wanted a touchscreen for web access and the keyboard for texting, and wasn't going to use the bells-and-whistles. One look at the tremendous (and mostly FREE) Android Market, and I proved myself wrong.

Buying palm over the Incredible would be nuts!

Yeah, buying the Palm over this would be crazy...or you are just cheap. The incredible is a nice phone, fast, and a very nice camera. I have been playing with it for the last 2 days and it is a solid phone. Just a little faster than the moto droid, but has a few other things that make it solid. The pinch and zoom feature works flawlessly, the browser is nice and the speech to text feature is nice on this phone. I stil like the moto droid, but the Incredible is worth every penny. I suggest to those who have not a had a smartphone or droid device prior, to play with first before you decide to buy it. It maybe definitely too much phone for some.

I generally suggest giving a phone half a year after release to buy it, especially a smartphone. Early adopters are sort of the 'real-world beta testers', meaning that they discover the problems that the actual beta tester's couldn't. Six months after release, though, updates have fixed most major issues, and the phone price has usually dropped some.

Saying that, I bought the Moment just a couple of months after release, and have had no problems. Might have the same luck with the Incredible, can't say.

I'd say with all the rave reviews from many different resources, plus the stable OS of android 2.1 it's a safe bet to buy on the 29th.

The Pre had pretty awesome pre-release reviews too. Luckily I didn't have my upgrade at the time it released, or that would have been a *big* mistake.

But, hey, the Incredible could work perfectly. As stated, my Moment did, and it's only 1.5.

I can give you dozens of reasons why you wouldn't want to pick the Pre Plus over the Incredible, but I can sum it up in one word (followed by explanation): NO

Have you ever seen something that looked SO good, and you wanted it SO bad, only to find that it wasn't just nothing like you expected, it was, in fact, the worst decision you had ever made in your life and you wish you could go back in time to convince yourself to go the other route?

That's what it's like buying a Pre Plus.

I've been known to be a strong Palm opponent over the years... OK, so maybe it's one of my few hot button items. I can't STAND Palm, and of the dozen or so smartphones I've owned, I am PROUD to say I never sunk so low as to spend my own money on Pa...

The only good thing about those Palm's right now is that VZW is giving away the mobile hotspot connection for free.

If what you REALLY want is a MiFi, but need to make the occasional phone call too, put a Palm Pixi in your pocket instead of hauling around a MiFi and a cell phone.

I can think of no other reason to go with WebOS right now, unless you're a geek who wants to use the ridiculously inefficient wireless charging system.

The way I figure, this is the only potential for this product.

Assuming you're on a family share, the phone would be $9.99/mo plus the $29.99 monthly data plan and $0 for the hotspot. That's $40 a month for what the Mifi does, with perhaps some slight speed slowing (tethering has always been a titch slower for me). That's $20 less.

But, of course, I'm accepting the fact that the Pre isn't good for much else. I wouldn't use it much for anything but tethering.
