Transfer Name on the Account

Otowncell

Situation: GF and I are on a family share plan which contract is up in July. We added another line a year later so when our lines are up we still have another year for the 3rd line. She is now moving away and I want to keep my line and the 3rd line on the same account.

Problem: Her name is on the account as the primary. We want to go our seperate ways at the end of our contract and I want to keep my line and the 3rd line together on a account. I really don't want to renew my line either until later in the year when a particular phone comes out. Any way to do this?

Thanks in advance to those who will help

Hello Otowncell,

You would do what is called by VZW an assumption of liability. (AOL)

Here is an idea on how it would go down.

1. You or her (if you are on the account) would have to change the plans to how you would like them setup after the change. Her on a single line plan and the other 2 lines on the family share.

2. She will have to call in and release the lines. aka authorize you to AOL the lines.

3. You will need to call in to do the AOL.

4. They will open a new account under your name. They may also run your credit to see if you will need a deposit etc.

5. They will move the 2 lines that you are assuming over to your newly created account.

6. Pro-rations on the bill are always nasty but if you do it on the b...

Ah.. Forgot that part.. Hmm. Well any AOL will extend the contract by 1 year for the 2 lines you move into your name. It will however not affect your upgrade eligibility. If you did want to go month 2 month then I would recommend working something out with her.. Maybe you can still split the plans and move they to a sub account? That way they are billed separate but no contract extension since they are technically under her name but billed to you..

So...

if your 3 months into a 2 year contract, and you do an AOL - your now 3 months into a 3 year contract?

1 year or the remainder of the original contract... Whatever is longer.

So basically...

the OP would end up with 1year on his line (originally due up in July)...

And the second line would remain as is (July+1year) (or end up bugged to 1 year as mentioned in the other thread).

And all of this can be done over the phone now, IIRC as well.

No, how it works (I believe) is when you do an AoL it gives you a 1 year contract. So if you are 5 months from being out of contract, you are now 12, if you are 20 months from being out of contract, you are now 12. however, NE2 and upgrade dates don't change.

It all depends on your area and your state.

In the western US, AOL does not change the contract at all, in most states. It's been years since I've seen an AOL change anything.

In other states, the contract is changed to a one year no matter what. Have two years left on contract? Do an AOL and instantly you have one year left. Problem is, you still have to wait 20 months.

In some states, if you have less than a year left, you get bumped up to a year. If you have more than a year left, it's not changed.

Each state is different because of contract law. Some states have laws in place which state that a transfer of service warrants an entirely new contract term with the new person, because the contract was previously with someon...

She calls customer support says "I want to release these two numbers".

You call customer support say "I want to assume these two numbers". You do a credit check, pay deposit (if needed), sign...

bam.

Numbers are in YOUR name, with the same original contract dates, same numbers...
