Buying a Netbook in store

Hogwild

Hey guys - I am in something of an odd situation. My family is traveling Monday morning from Louisville KY to McComb MS due to a family emergency (my mom-in-law is in critical condition in ICU).

Here's my question... As I do not have time to wait for an online purchase to arrive, I need to buy the netbook in house locally. However, it seems I can only get the immediate discount by buying online.

Is there anyone in my local store who has the authority to give me the rebate immediately given my situation?

Thanks guys in advance for your help. Ya'll are an awesome resource.

Dave

Thanks.

Also, the online chat reps (two different ones) have assured me that if I buy tonight, it will ship tomorrow (Sunday) and arrive Monday.

I repeatedly asked for clarification on the Sunday shipping. They both assured me I would have the netbook Monday...

Any thoughts?

UPS and FEDEX dont pick up on Sunday for shipping so I am unsure of how that would work. I would be extremely skeptical that you would receive it Monday.

Yikes... yeah it's one to two business days of shipping. You're more than likely to get it Tuesday (Wednesday at the very latest) since it'll have to actually process on a business day.

I even did a cut and paste of the fine print of the overnight shipping offer which makes it clear it will not ship until Monday. Both CSR's said that it would ship on Sunday and I would receive it Monday by 3 PM.

Im sorry man.. I work for VZW.. And unless they are going to hand deliver, it is not likely. The wearhouse does not process orders on Sunday and FedEx does not ship/pickup on Sunday. I'm 99% sure that the soonest you would get it is Tuesday. It will ship out Monday and you would receive it Tuesday.

If it came to a make vs break for the store then they do have the power to make the rebate instant. It is the beginning of the month thou so that is working against you. The stores are watched closely on how much discounting they do per unit sold and $100 off one unit is a large discount.

Hope that helps,
~Archer

You choose.

Get it today, and go thru hassle of mail in rebates...

Get it whenever and pay less.

You wait till the last minute and your choice gets made for you - you want it, you pay extra for it.

Thems the ropes.

Thanks for the compassion. Didn't wait until the last minute. Didn't know my mother-in-law was going to end up on life-support.

I'd appreciate it if you'd mine your own business.

And I answered your question.

I'm sorry about your m-i-l, but I wasn't overly rude.

I stated a simple truth. You have two choices. Fast or cheap.

If it's a "last minute" by lieu of not having enough time to do anything else, you still have the same options.

Get it now for a little more money... or save money for something that won't arrive in time.

The choice seems to be made for you. Don't be mad at me for simply being blunt.

I was fully aware of my options. I didn't need you to restate the obvious.

And I don't know how you think you answered my question. My question was simple: Can someone in my local store make the discount instant. What part of that question do you think you answered?

I'm not sure why you thought you needed to chime in at all?

Is anyone else concerned that this guy's mother-in-law is in the icu and his priority is the delivery of his precious netbook??

Some of our family is unable to make the trip. They asked me if it were possible to establish a way for video chats from the hospital. Hopefully as she recovers (today's reports indicate some progress) she can see and hear her family, children, and grandchildren.

I'm not concerned with "my precious netbook". I am, however, concerned with my family making "live" connections with someone very dear to us.

Thanks for proving that this village has more than one idiot.

It would have helped if you explained this in your original post. I stand corrected. My apologies.

I'm sorry for being snippy. You're right; I should have explained in more details.

Things are crazy as we are focused on the important things but at the same time trying to plan for the near future.

I also didn't mention that I had hoped to have it hand before our trip as I was going to leave it with family there for a short time so that once we return to KY we would be able to continue connecting.

Of course all of this is dependent on the recovery we are praying for.

Thanks for your apology. You have mine as well.

I'm sorry your in a tough spot. I hope your family gets better. Truly I do.

I'm also sorry you didn't get the obvious answer to the question.

If you want it fast, you pay for it.

I don't think I need to draw it out in crayon... I'm not being dense. I'm not being stupid.

This isn't the middle east where you can barter for a better deal. The deal is as posted: You get a discount for online purchases... that takes awhile to reach you. You want it today? tomorrow? the online deal doesn't do you any good now does it?

Again... I'm sorry for your family. But I'm sorry you can't read a simple reply as well.

So I'm going to say no. I know corp stores operate a little differently, but there are still stiff repercussions for discounting a device like that. If your local store is a retailer, they CANNOT do that because they buy the device at a certain price, and with how dirt cheap netbooks are selling for right now, they need that rebate cost to try and turn a profit.

Rebates take 2-3 weeks to get back to you. If you NEED the device now, then pay the higher price and ship out the rebate right away. Yes, it's an extra $100, but you have your device Now, and you'll get that money back in a few weeks no problem

I'm sorry for your situation, but you've been responding immaturely to people here. Yes, some of them have been a bit more blunt t...

I agree. Honestly Verizon's can't and wont take his situation into consideration. With millions of customers there are probably thousands of them a day in similar situations and they can't just change the rules on the spot to accommodate everyone.
