So my Moto Droid like everyone else's now has 2.1 and I'm just not that gee-whiz with redoing cell phone OS. 😕
Alot of the rooting & overclocking instructions I've found doing a Google search are old posts when the Droid was running 2.0.1

I just want to bump it up to say 600-800Mhz but I just need some easy to follow instructions to do it. 😳

WARNING: Rooting your phone will destroy ANY warranty you have on the device. Don't come and smash my coffee mug if this ruins your phone or turns it into a terminator. If you are not comfortable with dealing with Command Line Code, don't do it!

2.1 Has NOT been rooted yet. This will take you from Stock 2.1 to a 2.1 ROM

😎 Sorry, had to be said 😎
I Rooted in 2,01, so my process was a little different, here is what I found to go from stock 2.1-->2.1 Rooted Rom though

The only option I found was kinda complex (but easy to follow if you can read)

How to root:

After that, get the Premium version of ROM manager (well worth it at $6 ...

i believe those instructions give you a rooted stock 2.1 rom with the ability to boot sprecovery, so if you don't want a custom rom after you get the rooted 2.1 rom all you have to do is boot in to recovery do a backup, and load a custom kernel that allows overclocking and download set cpu for .99 off of the market it's pretty easy to do

It's actually a 2.1 Rooted ROM, not Stock 2.1 with Root.

2.1 hasn't officially been rooted yet.

technically you're right but also wrong Menno, in the instructions it states:
For these instructions, we have chosen a stock 2.1 rooted ROM.
I understand it is a rooted ROM, that is what I said in my previous post. I may have worded it incorrectly though I said rooted stock 2.1 and I suppose I should have said stock rooted ROM 2.1. Either way it's really easy to keep that same exact ROM and load a custom kernel to Over Clock the processor that's what I had to do b/c I had an unrooted 2.1 and I followed those same instructions.

Finally got it working. 😎

Made some mistakes but from reading the message board they weren't anything out of the norm. Lost my Market, didn't realize I needed a custom ROM first and a CPU app. 😲

But I will deffantly recommend rooting to my fellow Android users, opens up a ton more settings. 😁
