Cheap Liars

I think it's funny when customers try to purchase smartphones with no data package, saying "i only want it for a phone and to text, but i like this phone; i don't want internet".

I would like for just once, a customer to say "i want to have the phone that everybody else has, but i don't want to pay for it. i want to get over on the system for once in my life (or "i'm used to getting over on the system so this shouldn't be different)."

I can understand being cheap; I'm cheap. I just think that it's amazing how many people try to get smarthpones with no data. That's all.

It is frustrating isn't it. I sel at&t and ever since they mandated smart phone plans I get a couple of customers a week who put their SIM card in a used blackberry who come in and want 3 months of bill credits because the $30 plan got added on automatically. I just wish some people would take responsibility for their own actions.

I've started asking, without hesitation, if the Internet were free on the device, would they use that service?

Most of them say yes. From there, I tell them something to the effect of, "do you realize all that you're getting for $30 a month?" From there, I usually go into more than web and email.

On occasion, I've also commented on how we'd all love it if voice service were free, too.

To me, someone who wants the phone without the data, 99% of the time they know they MUST get data. They just don't understand what they get for that fee. In many cases, they think we're talking about the kind of Internet we had on flip phones four years ago, such as Mobile Web 2.0 (or worse).
