Any suggestions would be helpful. I lost my job so naturally I have to go over all bills and make the necessary adjustments until I can get back on my feet.

Situation: Out of contract I'm on the 1400 minute family plan with 2 Droid's and unlimited txt. Any suggestions on the best dumb phones would be my first request. I need to stay on the 1400 minute plan because I'll need the minutes to look for work ( only phones) and my wife calls her mom frequently who's on a land line. I only have one extra dumb phone laying around it's the Motorola Adventure and it has seen better days, so I wouldn't feel comfortable activating that...so I guess I have to purchase new phones.

Are there any other prepaid options that I might not be aware of that ...

Sprint has two prepaid options: Boost and Virgin.

Boost has unlimited everything for $50/phone/month. $100 right there.

Virgin Mobile has unlimited internet, unlimited text'ing and 300/1200/unlimited minutes for $25/$40/$60 respectively. Could get 2x$1200/month for $80/month. If one of you doesn't need as many minutes, can go with 25+40=$65.

T-Mobile has monthly/prepaid options as well that might be worth it.

Simply Everything (Wal-Mart) might also be an option... mainly minutes + text (Don't think they have good data options), but 30 or 45 x2 isn't bad. Crappy selection of phones. All three of em.

Need to purchase phones as well to get benefits of good prices. T-Mobile charges less for monthly prices if you bring-your-own equ...

If it were me, when push comes to shove, I'd activate the adventure and buy a basic used phone somewhere (online, local used phone store, friend, etc). It's your cheapest route that leaves your contracts open in case you need to make drastic changes.

Look at how many texts you do on average. I'd consider moving to non unlimited text plans if prudent. In any case, leave the 1400 minutes alone. You'll need them, and prepay for two lines won't cost much differently than your existing plan, with your type of usage. You might be able to save ten bucks if you can get away with two $10 text plans.

Two Droids,eh? I would say the Motorola e815 or the LG-VX8300. As far as Pre-Paid...Page Plus is the obvious choice. Unlimited Text and Talk for $39.99 AND you would still have the Verizon Network (just NOT their excellent customer service). Of course, I have stated in the past that in my opinion the customer service is NOT worth an extra $50 monthly (Select Unlimited versus Unlimited Text and Talk). *Shrug*
