Have any of you had any experience with relativly cheap (less than 2k a month) and successful advertising? I have tried direct mail, flyers, banners, signs, receipt tape at Publix, local papers, phone books, and to real success.
Were in a strip mall in a smaller community a lot of tourist (which I dont want to target)
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Figured I would change the VZW vs. Cingy vs. Nextel wars there seem to always be.
...
too be honest, you shouldnt be cheap when it comes to advertising, becuase when you advertise you need to make it clear that you are better then the other people out there.
"I have tried direct mail, flyers, banners, signs, receipt tape at Publix, local papers, phone books,"
i would do that but mostly i will do the public paper, the movie theaters and things of that nature.
what are you marketing? how big is your town? what are you selling? how big is your space? where is it near? what is your market target?
if you answer those questions it would be easier to help you..
...
Sure, I majored in advertising/public relations so I am familiar with how things work in that field,
My store is about 2000 sq feet, located in a strip mall, the closest movie theater that I would be advertising is about 40 minutes away and has a Verizon store right next door to it that would meet any offer I put in there,
The larger paper that I could advertise in goes out to the entire county which covers 2 hour drive noth and 2 drive south so advertising in it would be overkill big time and would cost more money than I can afford.
I have though of all the things I mentioned above including give aways, co advertising with other companies,
I was just wanting to know if anybody had found something different than the standard th...

well, i have a store and my partners have a few. ( i am in the process of getting another one. but anyway.)
now, with the one i put up in my area and teamed up to nextel to do that there was a cingular store near me. now what did i do to try to steal away their traffic? (you know how i knew that there was traffic? well i actually went into the store as a regular customer and just asking questions to the guy. he was upfront with everything) so next i thought. hmm how do i steal their traffic? well i put my store purposly right next to a starbucks. so what does that mean? well i would partner up with starbucks to get a free coffee or whatever the customer wanted up to a certain amount. it depends on the contract length and what they got for...

Thanks for the ideas bro
...
no problem. just try to cover the whole area and your radius by attacking everything such as with corp accounts, businesses, and regular consumers. it has worked well for me and for my partners. just trying to help 🙂
...
my pleasure. if its not working there, i suggest moving to another location. remember its location location location.
...
I wish it was that simple, still have another 2 years on my lease
...
you cant break your lease? if not why not? anyway, another thing i forgot to mention that i just thought of was to advertise on your local channel. we have one so i might be thinking to advertise on the local channels that my store is near.
...
Already did the advertison on TV, cost about 4k, which means I need to do an extra phones a month to cover its cost, which I did about 5 extra per month, so I couldnt rationalize,
What state are you in? Just curious
...
mass.
how many phones do you do in a month?
...
Anywhere from 60-100, a bad month is in the 50's
...
not to bad. what market are you in?
...
ooo thats a busy market. do you have extra income to use it for advertising?
...
no, just what I make out of the store,
...
ouch. yea, that market is too crowded i think. i think you picked a bad area to get into. anyway, with that said, you should try to steal away customers. basically what differentiates your providers from the others.
...
Another idea might be to advertise at the local high schools/community colleges: in their papers, at sporting events, etc. (As I'm sure you know, that demographic has a lot of discretionary income.) Sponsor a city-league sports team? Local radio?
Let me know what you think.
...
ahh, another good idea. very interesting ideas. could be interesting, i will take that under consideration.
we have student plans so we cover basically the high school and the college thats in my town. with sporting events we dont cover. (good idea though) with papers, sometimes we do that, but not usually.
with sponsoring a local team or on a local radio, i dont think thats a great idea, becuase each store controls an area. our stores dont want to "invade" others. you know?
...
Many radio stations will sell you a radio remote. This is great for short term events.
For a fixed price you get some 30 second spots leading up to the day of the event and then on that day the DJ broadcasts live from your store. If you have a solid promotion at the time and a "carnival" atmosphere it will drive people to you on that day and for a period of time afterward.
...
yea, thats not a good idea, but thanks anyway.
...
Is there a park or something where the kiddies play little league/soccer on Saturday mornings? Take a tent, a table and a banner with your store name/logo on it. Set up shop and hand out free lemonade/water. I bet you'd get a lot of bored parents sneaking over to talk to you during the game. Get their info and contact them later.
...
thats true, but i only go after businesses and high schools and colleges around here. i dont have to worry too much about others, plus this whole advertising idea wasnt for me. but thanks anyway.
...
I like the little league idea, thanks guys
...
no problem. good luck. let us know of how the response is.
...
I'd love to do those kind of numbers. What are you complaining about?? You should be making a fortune with that many activations a month!

we have a store located in a strip mall. right now the strip mall is hardly known. but what makes it tougher is there is a total of 9 places within a 2 mile radius to get a verizon phone so we have quite a bit of competition. we have an ulta store and a awesome music store and soon to be an old navy store in the strip mall. but still it gets really slow in the store. any suggestions on how we can get to promote out store and get people to come into our store as opposed to the corporate or any of the other 7 places? we have tried fliers (in neighboring stores and on cars) and we have tried sneding out invitations to schools and businesses. the area is very well populated with stores and people, its just tough to direct them to our area. any ...

Have a promo day-- 1st 250 people to walk in the store can get a free a phone and act fee waived. Anounce it on the radio and have people go to your website to get directions and store hours
...
you cant do that if your a small store or big rent in a small area. meaning you have to have the capital to back that up, becuase who knows if people will come and who knows if they will accept that free phone. when people hear free phone its like oh great, how bad is this.
i dont think thats a good idea.
...
A certain % of a companies budget is allocated to marketing. A promo needs to be done to get the name of the store out there. Even if it makes customers question the product they will still think about the store and possibly even go into the store to confirm their beleifs and then buy something else.
I majored in marketing, I know how consumers think and their expectation levels associated to the wireless industry. So you can argue with me as much as you want, because that is what you do best. But once again you are wrong and I know you have a hard time accepting that.
...
i am a double minor in marketing also. but i know that you need to spend a portion of your revenue and/or capital on marketing, however, you have to make sure its a good one. promos i wouldnt do if its in a small area where there arent many affluent people. if you have deep pockets then i would.
everyone knows how consumers think. (its called channel checks and customer care and etc..)
i can argue becuase your wrong. lets say you are in an ok area where there arent a lot of traffic near you and not many things around you. you wont do well no matter how much marketing you do. unfort you wouldnt know, becuase i would.
for my stores and my partners stores since we have money plus the areas where we serve are very affluent we can do...

How do you know hes in a small area? He didnt mention that.
How do you know that there aren't many affluent people in his area?
You are assuming again nextel, you do that quite well
YOU DONT KNOW WHAT AREA HE IS IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YOU'RE ARGUEING A POINT BASED ON AN ASSUMPTION THAT HE LIVES IN A SMALL AREA.
You have been wrong multiple times now nextel many people have pointed out that your logic is not correct. Many people have tried to teach you, but you just wont learn and keep trying to fight it. I feel sorry for you. I hope wont day you wont argue against everything.
...
personal attacks huh? notice how i didnt attack you. i am just weighing opinions. just stating the worst-case scenarios. enough with the personal attacks.

Not an ad expert, but I've been told that both radio and the smaller cable TV channels are a relative steal cost/results-wise, IF you're careful in targeting the right demographic with them.
Obviously you wouldn't try to sell beer and pickups on the Home & Garden TV channel, for example.
