Thinking of Switching Companies- Currently Wk for Cingular

For the most part I enjoy working in a call center and work for Cingular right now. But I am tired of driving 40 miles roundtrip ( in Seattle traffic! ) to work- and was thinking of applying for to work for Verizon's call center in Bellevue, WA. I was just curious of anyone out there works there and know how much they start at. I have four years customer service call center experiance and three years of retail. I currently get paid $25K a year. I don't hate working for Cingular by any means but gas is just getting too expensive and by cutting my commute in half would help a lot. Any pros and cons for working @ Verizon?

25K a year?

That is barely enough to cover your Starbucks tab.

I can tell you a company named Go Wireless (my former employer) has a job posting on their website for a retail position there. You'd definately make more money.

Good luck.

LOL! I know what you mean- I am so dependent on Starbucks I collect change around the house and turn it in to Coinstar ( they give you a Starbuck s card w/ out charging a fee ) I will check that out- thanks!!

You have FOUR years CS experience, and they pay you $25K a year? Yargh, that's pretty miserly unless they're giving you some great benefits. I know some CS guys in California who work for Sony, and they get close to $30K with NO experience.

Sounds like you could do better elsewhere... if you check out Verizon CS and find they pay as bad as Cingy, then flip them the bird also and keep on looking. ☚ī¸

Thanks for the imput- the grass is greener on the other side. Actually the benefits are pretty good w/ Cingular but I am on the old ATT employee plan and I heard the new one is not as good.

The benefits are staying the same. Theres pro's and cons for both companies. Verizon doesnt have The Edge Rewards, we do, ive "heard" verizon pays more, but we have better benefits. It boils down to personal preference. To some bene's dont matter especially if you dont have children.

I sticking with my 2 yr tenure, and better Bene's and the edge rewards. Also, when you started working for Cingular/attws, you agreed to NOT work for another wireless carrier for 6 months after resignation.

i'm curious where you get that the benefits are better with cingular. from what i've read, vzw's benefits are some of the best out of any company in the country (not just the wireless industry). if you don't mind me asking, what are you getting at cingular that isn't avail to vzw employees (just curious).

My brother works for Verizon, I get my info from him.... thanks for trying though. To be honest...they are huge differences and it makes a diff of which type of health you have. Verizon only gives you $5000 a year for dental....Cing is $7000, I pay $5.00 for perscriptions, my bro pays $7-10. There are a few other differences, but again, it depends if you have a PPO, HMO, PPI, blah blah blah. I wasnt degrading Verizon's benefits.....

I love my edge rewards.
I got a new blender, a toaster oven, and 2 magazine subscriptions. Sweetness!
And the vendor site I work for is giving away a sleeping bag everyday, a tent every week, and a grand monthly price of a loveseat size stainless steel 7500$ BarBQue just for meeting certain stats. And they take people out to lunch every month, AND a recognition breakfast. Can't go wrong with that.

They actually took away out Edge Rewards when we became an orange call center. So, I don't get that benefit đŸ˜ĸ. I think it depends on where ( like what state ) you work but there is nothing in my agreement that prevents me from working for another wireless company...there are tons of people here that move companies.

Verizon's benefits are unmatched. The insurance is first rate, and I don't get charged nearly as much for that as I did while working for Tmobile. Our yearly bonus blows everyone else out of the water as well. Add to that the time off that you get, profit sharing, 401k..etc...it's a good bet. I've been working for vzw under two years and I will make at least 37k this year. and that's bare minimum. and i only have about three years experience in the industry.

i worked in sales for sprint, cingular, and now verizon. the differences are a little more than free toasters and camping tents.

i worked for all of these companies in pretty busy locations. i dont like talking about pay, but i guess someone needs to tell you how it is...

sprint, i made around $28k... i'm talking about sales positions, and yea, that's freakin pathetic isn't it.

cingular, a little more. i made around $40k

and my current employer, verizon. last year my W2 totalled $60k. this year i'm in a busier location, and i'm trending to hit about $80k. keep in mind, you really must have selling skill for verizon. otherwise they will replace or transfer you faster than you know what happened.

i dont know about y...

OK- I finally got in touch w/ HR for Verizon directly and their CSR do start out at $30 ( not include bonuses ) while my stinky Cingular pay is actually $24K w/ $1 K in potental bonuses. I did manage to get an interview- and hopfully I will get the job. I really could use the money. Thanks for eveyone's input.
