I'm switching from a regional carrier due to a new job. I'd like a national carrier and don't know much about them. I do not want to sign a contract because I will be moving around alot due to a job change don't want to be stuck with penalties if the service is unavailable or spotty. Verizon seems to be a good choice.Anyway, Can I buy a phone say off of Ebay and get Verizon month to month service? I see alot of good prices there on some really nice phones that do not have a specific service mentioned. I don't know if they can be used for Verizon or not.
Thanks

Verizon requires a minimum of 1 year contract, even if oyu use your own phone.
...
Yikes!Do all the carriers have that requirement?

I dont want to say all because I'm not 100% sure and I dont like to make statements unless I know they're 100% accurate.
Off the top of my head I cant think of anybody who starts off month to month, but I may be wrong, I sell wireless every single day and I have personally never heard of anybody who does this.
Once again I might be wrong and I dont want say for sure because on this site if you are wrong you will be humg and burned! Literally!
I am 100% sure that I have never heard of anybody going month to month to start your contract with.

Sprint will allow month to month but Fair And Flexible, The America attachment, 7PM nights and the first two free months of Vision are not available. It also costs $10.00 more per month.
Verizon has a minimum 14 day (30 days in California) "trial period" which lets you out of your contract if the service is unaccepatable to you.
...
Pretty much. If you dont want a contract, go with prepay.
...
Prepay is more expensive I would guess. I guess I'll buy a phone I like then shop for a carrier who is compatable. If I have to sign for a year I'll have to do that. I don't know anything about the technology as a friend of mine sent me here to get some information. He is month to month and advised against siging contracts because the service can be pretty spotty in different places and its costly to switch otherwise.

Well if you can deal with the service, Sprint used to sign you up to start month to month. The catch was your monthly bill was 10 dollars higher. But for 10 a month I found it worth it to know I had the freedon of leaving whenever I wanted without ETF. This was a while back tho so I don't know if its still offered.

Give verizon a try, you have 14 days to try it out. I use verizon, and in Iowa, Minnesota, south dakato, nebraska, wiscosin, illinois, and Missouri, it works great, has very few spotty areas, the most that happens is you will go from a verizon tower to a extended network tower, sometimes that disconnects the call, but, you can call right back. In this part of the woods, you cant go wrong with verizon. ALL carriers will have their weak spots, that is just wireless, you have to find the carrier that works for where you will be, that is where the 15 day trial comes in handy.
Also, if you are going to have to sign a year contract either way, why are you going to get your phone off of ebay, you might as well get it thru verizon and get the ...
