2 smartphones on a family plan??

I'm on a family plan with two other people sharing 700 minutes and unlimited texting and ulimited data for me (the primary line). When i try to upgrade from my phone (samsung rogue) to a smartphone, online, it says i have to create an individual plan. Is this because one of the additional lines on the plan already has a smartphone...or some other reason?

Are you the primary line on that plan? If you have one of the old "Connect" or "premium" plans, and you're the primary line, you can't upgrade to a smartphone without first changing the plan to nationwide talk and text

To the original poster: When you order online the system appears to be asking you to change your plan, but it is not (unless you MUST change the plan due to an incompatibility). The awkwardness some from the way the shopping cart software was written.

You really should know your current plan going into an online upgrade. If you're on an older Connect or Premium labeled plan, as Menno said, you would need to have it changed first (in a store or over the phone would be best). If you're not on a plan with these words in the title, then you simply need to know which plan you're on (primary, secondary, minutes, etc) when you go into ordering.
