I just looked on the Verizon Wireless website and have discovered that you can no longer get a Local DigitalChoice Plan in my area (Montgomery, AL) any more. Also tried Atlanta, GA area and it also doesn't show any local calling plans. What's up w/ that?

Yeah, the Local plans seem to be going away here in Northern California too... only way I can get to them on VZW's website now is through the 'Site Map' link.

I think its a BAD idea to get rid of the local plans. Sure, I understand WHY they did it- less confusion for the customer (& CS guys) if there's fewer lines of consumer plans. Guess there's also some administrative cost-savings involved too.

Still, lets be honest: there is a significant number of consumers out there who don't give a fig about having national coverage (even with the no roaming) and who were very happy with the local plans because they got more minutes. Ditching the local plans entirely lessens choice for them, plus leaves the door open for companies like T-Mobile ...

Local plans are not available online
The local plans you selected are not available online. However, now you can get IN on the nation's largest home calling area.

With the new America's Choice Plans, you can make calls from more places - all with no roaming!

I did what you said, about going to "Site Map." That is what it said. Looks like you can probably get them in stores and over the phone, just no longer online.

Any reps know if the local plans will still be available in stores or not?

(btw, for my area code (94043), Site Map will lead you to Local plans. Its different for different areas).

Local is NOT DEAD

Yah, just picked up one today. Had to fish around behind the CS counter to do it though. My local VZW store had absolutely none in customer sight... but did have about a zillion of the new America's Choice brochures all over the place. I could've started a bonfire with them, lets put it that way.

Talking to the CS lady behind the counter about it, she said that while Local is still available, they were REALLY pushing the AC national plans. Which I guess also explains why its so hard to find the LDC plans on the VZW website.

I also asked if Local was ever going away completely and for good... she said it's he...

we have loacl digital choice in Philly, but there is no reason to go on the plans since you pay the same for the same amount of minutes and long distance is not included. So it is there, but there is absolutely no perks to being on it. The only plan people ever get on in Philly is the 24.99 plan for 60 minutes, nothing else though, no nights and weekends or in with that plan.

It's a little different here in California. We get more minutes here on the Local plans, and there are (were?) some nice local promotions... like 600 minutes, Unl N/W/IN for $39.99.

Also, the California coverage is, ironically, a bit better on the local plans too.
