Prepaid and Visual Voicemail

Hogwild

Can one of the new prepaid smartphone plans have visual voicemail? I am trying to set up my uncle's phone for him and it seems to be blocking VM.

If he were to decide to do so (I have offered), I understand he can cancel this prepaid account (one week old - under 30 days) and then I can put him on my family plan.

I am wondering if I will be able to do a AOL for his account so that his number (from the prepaid account) can just roll over to my family plan?

Sorry - I know I ramble and make little sense - my wife tells me that all the time! LOL!

What kind of phone does he have? If it's android/blackberry there are free visual voicemail programs out there.

And if he wants to keep his number, you can port his number into your family plan, but if you bought the device as prepaid, he'll have to get a new phone.

Its a Droid (I). I was just checking on youmail and some of the others...

The device is an old device of mine that is clear and clean so I am letting him use it.

ok, then you can port it over if you need.

For Droid's the best Visual Voicemail is deff Google Voice (imo) you can set it up to be your main voicemail provider.

Your problem has a simple solution:

I'll add to Menno's posts (as I often do lately).

What you'll be asking for is a pre-pay to post-pay conversion, assumed from his account into your account. It can be done in one step.

Once done, the line will remain prepay for the remainder of that day. Any balance left on the line will transfer with his number and show up like a payment under his number, but on your account.

Since you used existing equipment, you should NOT have a contract. Be sure they verify this.

A pre-to-post conversion can be done in a corporate-owned store, or over the phone with customer care. I'm not aware of any authorized retailers who can perform this task without themselves calling customer care for assistance.

In the long, run it's cheaper...

I am quick with the replies?

I'll add to you:

Premium retailers have the ability to convert from a pre-pay to a post pay without an issue, the problem comes when you try adding it to an existing account. It can be done, but it typically requires a call. (One of the current issues with the software imo)

I don't know of many places that will turn it down though, because even though they don't really make anything on the activation , it will go towards their new line goal.

But yeah, double check they don't sign him up for a contract. The system defaults to a 2 year agreement, and most reps don't even bother with that section of the screen.

I'll add to your addendum.

Corp stores and customer care have no problem doing the pre-to-postpay conversion and AOL in one step. Also, they have to select the non-contract term when they do this, so if they goofed it's usually easy to fix (as long as it's caught right away).

I'm glad to hear the premium retailers can help with it, too, even if it takes another step to complete it.

And I'm not sure on the indirect side, but most of the time a pre to post conversion does count as an add, as long as the prepay wasn't done at Walmart or some other national retailer, or if it was a phone in the box, or if it was run up using the E-code ENC. Usually, these default to using a non-commissionable sales code, so you don't get credit for th...

Side note: I was under the assumption that you cannot do this with a phone in a box until the p.i.a.b has been activated for at least 6 months on a prepay account. This prevents the deact/activation quandry.

You can do this, you have the use the E-code ENC to do it. That way, the system isn't sending any commission updates for the work.

It's a code you type in that tells the system it is you who are doing the work for commission tracking. For us, they start with an E, hence the "E-Code." ENC is E-Non Commissionable. I assume E is for Employee, but who knows.

I'm an indirect owner and not even a premium and we can do prepay to postpay as well as even adding it to an existing account without any issues in EROES. I've done it many times. The only issue we run in to is like you guys have said somewhere in the thread with prepay equipment. If it was purchased at Wal-Mart or somewhere I've never had any luck using that equipment. When we get to the ESN section it tells us prepaid equipment can't be activated on a postpaid plan. Usually in that scenario the customer just takes a free phone that was similar to the prepay they had anyway.

I was not aware that the prepay balance would show up on the postpaid account as a payment. I was under the impression they just lost the money that was left o...

Another added bonus is that apparently there is no activation fee (though I have yet to have this confirmed, it always shows $0 under activation fee, and no customers came back complaining about it)

Not sure how EROS handles it, but Netace also doesn't populate an act fee. Now, a postpay to prepay conversion, it WILL try it, but there's often a way around it.
