In Network Text Messaging

Now that extended network is considered "in", is text messaging on extended network "in"? Thanks.

My answer will probably generate some controversy, but here it is:

Technically, the answer is NO. The unlimited IN-Network text messaging is only available on the Verizon Wireless digital network, also known as the National Enhanced Services Rate and Coverage Area.

IN-Network calling, however, is in fact available throughout the extended network, except for a small sliver somewhere in the south. In this area, your phone will display a flashing roam indicator in addition to the words "extended network."

In practice, and this is only my opinion, I think that a lot of text will bill as IN-Network on some large portions of the extended network. Feature transparency allows functions such as voice mail alert, caller I...

I dont think you can send txt when your on "Extended network" Can you?

Depends on the carrier. I have visited the Kalamazoo area, which is definitely extended network. The carrier, as far as I can tell, is Alltel or Centurytel.

Not only was I able to send and receive text, I was able to use Mobile Web and Get It Now.

The technical specifications, are beyond me. But I have the impression that Alltel's CDMA network is almost a clone of Verizon's.

But some parts of the extended network are Sprint's PCS network. So you can begin to see how some features and services may flow through one carrier's network but not another.

I text message in Minnesota, south dakato, Nebraska, and wiscosin no problems, and even in the extended network areas, Iowa has extended network areas, and I text message there also, yesterday, I was in a extended network area, and I was able to forward my phone on that tower....
