Checking ESN

How do I check whether the ESN for a used phone is "clean"? Is there a site similar to www.checkESN.com for Verizon? Do I call Verizon customer service? Visit a store?

As you can tell, I'm new to this!

Call 800-922-0204.

From the sound of it, you may already have Verizon, so you can also call *611 from a Verizon phone.

When it asks for your number, enter it.

When it gives you options, press zero.

When you get to someone, explain to them that you're thinking of buying a Verizon phone from someone, and need to make sure the ESN is free to activate. The rep should be able to check what's known as the Negative List (or File, sometimes), to see if a particular ESN is blocked from activation.

If the ESN is not available, for instance, it was once reported as lost or stolen, the person selling the phone would have to call in to have the ESN removed from the list, assuming it wasn't ACTUALLY found or stolen by them. The account ow...
