That sucks, but I can't say I'd ever expect a 4 inch piece of glass to hold up against a 4 foot drop onto a metal box. Perhaps you should invest in one of these for the next one?

Unfortunately Otterbox doesn't have them available yet. If you click on any of the 3 they are still coming soon. Last time I checked even the Incredible said coming soon still. Otterbox really needs to get their stuff together. At this rate the phones will be EOL before they even have cases ready for them.

I signed up for the email notification for the otterbox long ago, surprisingly the X was in the shell/holster combo that you buy at the verizon store when it fell...had the buy the Ravine at full retail for 319.00... oh well I shall revisit android when they make a MILL SPEC smart phone!

You DROPPED it. It's a piece of plastic surrounding circuitry. If you drop your laptop chances are the same thing is going to happen. It is NOT a rugged phone. It is a sophisticated electronic device. I HOPE that you were wise enough to purchase Wireless Phone Protection. Make an insurance claim...

It's funny, but with electronics (cell phones included) it almost seems like the really cheap, light-weight stuff can survive being dropped better than a solid device with a little "heft" to it. I've had free POS flip phones that you could almost throw to the ground and they'd keep right on working. Same with super cheap MP3 players that barely weigh a few ounces. Yet I don't recommend dropping an iPod Touch or a quality smartphone on a hard surface. The extra mass is working against you at that point. Kinda like how a kid can fall from a swing set and just bounce, get up and keep playing. But take a grown man and drop him from 6' and he's gonna be hurting.

And yet a drunk grown man dropped from 6' will usually walk away just fine, where his sober counterpart will be a mess on impact.

Sometimes, the cheaper electronics have just a little more room inside. An impact to the housing of the phone doesn't immediately transfer it's energy into the circuitry or screen. The circuitry experiences more indirect reverberation energy.

A tighter product - something really crammed into a housing - has just enough of the gap removed to cause more direct energy to impact the inside components. Not to mention that the screen is likely the weakest point, since it removes an immense portion of the housing.

i drop my blackberry almost everyday mult times a day. its a habbit, im driving use my phone and set it in my lap. then guess what? i get out and blam hits the ground and skids across the pavement. sad thing is i still haven't looked for a protector for it that would fit in my holster.

the thing is you gotta treat the evo's, epic's, iphones, droids and other big screen devices all them like baby's. they have a huge screen which is obviously weak i seen someone have theres break from tossing it on there bed lightly. and my sup's holster fell off them while they were sitting down and hit the carpet and broke. it stayed together due to the screen protector.

I remember WAAAAAAAY back when...I would have customers walk into my store swinging their Startacs by the antenna. Then the same customer would come in complaining about the antenna having broken (all by itself no less).
