Verizon Service...coming to my area?

I reside in an area serviced by Alltel Wireless and Cingular as the two main carriers. After recently noticing a new antenna going up on a local cell tower, I went and asked the contractor that was there if there was a new cell provider coming to the area. All they knew is that it was Verizon Cellular...of course VZW.

When calling Verizon customer service and giving them my zip code, they said they weren't licensed to sell service in my area at this time. The tower is supposted to be on by the first week of June, according to the contractor working at the site.

Any insight to Verizon Wireless buying some spectrum or licenses in new areas?

We dont find out about new areas untill the day we are able to start selling in that area. The construction company is probly going to be done setting the tower up in June, That also doesnt mean that everything is right in our system.

If you would tell us where you are it would help to identify whether or now VZW is going to start offering service. Verizon has acquired several licenses over the past year or so, so yes they are expanding into areas where they do not have service now.

I'm located in zip code 43906...which is Bellaire, Ohio. The metro area i'm located is Wheeling, WV, which is like 4 miles from me, and their zip code is 26003.

Thanks for any help I can get in identifying future VZW service for my area.

Why not just sign up for service in a city where VZW is already liscensed and change your address after a month? I'm pretty sure the entire Alltel network is part of the Verizon extended network so your phone would likely work.

You are right, but I had already known that Alltel is part of Verizon's extended network, but only the voice network would work, nothing like the Mobile Web, Caller ID, Voicemail indicator, and other additional services, I was told several times, will not work in extended (other partner carriers) network areas.

When searching for coverage info. on verizonwireless.com, there is a section when you enter your zip or scroll down a list of towns/cities after you select your state, and just today seen where many communities in my area are now listed and weren't before.

The towns are listed in all capital letters, and others are in small case. Does this mean that VZW is or will have service in the listed towns on the website?

I use the extended network all the time, alltel included, I can tell you, that caller ID, voicemail indicator works on Alltel, at least the area of Alltel I use, which is mostly Nebraska. I dont know about mobile web, doubt it, but, I dont use that, I do know that get it now wont work outside of Verizon towers.

I have even forwarded my cell phone while in the extended network.
