So...
..I activated an old LG-VX8300 I acquired from a friend and I discovered that with its old PRL and software it is stuck in extended network. The SID here in southwest Alabama was 4160 before the "merger" but now apparently Alltel's old SID 120 is the one they kept. (I would certainly keep 850 over 1900). So my phone is stuck in Extended Network. I also have an LG-VX8100 which is doing the same thing. To these phones Alltel SIDs are roaming and in the old days would have cost Verizon money so I certainly understand why they set them up like that. The old rules are so silly today. However, I am afraid if I go to the store that I won't get help because they don't have technicians here...they've all been converted to sales reps and who wa...

I had a customer with this issue. We ended up having to speak to tech support on phone (they were already at a store with a tech center that wouldn't help them) and we manually reprogrammed it.

I went to the store. Verizon removed the software for the 8300 out of their computer.

Weird. I still have it. It's on the older LG software, but I still have it.

Go to an indirect store as the corporate stores probably wont help you. Ask them to manually program the phone. They'll probably have to call Tech Support to do it but that should fix your problem.

One cannot manually program software. As far as updating the PRL. I don't need to call tech support for that. I got that done myself as I worked in tech support for them.

Oh I got ya sorry, its been a while since I worked for them and manually programed a phone. I was thinking that what you were talking about was one of the settings that you can change during manual programming. I work for T-Mobile now so I don't deal with any of that anymore.
I assume you have tried online for the software that you need? I know with Moto I have usually been able to find any software I needed in the forums on Moto's site. LG probably has something similar, and if not there's still a good chance that you can find it online.

I think I'm reading your question right, and if I am, I have a plausible short-term solution for you.
It sounds like your phone is locked into SID 4160 and you want to make it recognize SID 120.
Is that correct, or am I reading the question wrong? What is your final solution you're looking for?

Actually the phone was locked into SID 4160 which no longer exists but was serving 264 (Cellular South) rather than 120 (Alltel) VZW had 264 higher on the PRL list than 120 back in the day. I just went into programming and locked out 264. THEN I was able to *228 and program the new PRL. I'm still stuck with the old software though. I have a VX8100 in pristine condition as a backup. I picked up both these handsets for FREE. Previous owner was going to trash them and asked me who should he donate them too? I was like...uh...me.
