Why is Verizon giving legacy Alltel customers the run around?
So people who are existing Verizon customers who are qualified to preorder an iphone, are now being told Facetime won't work because their plan is an Alltel plan. That makes absolutely no sense. I guess they trying to get them to switch to something higher priced and telling customers that if they want to get all the features they are going to have to pay more than what they currently pay AND take less minutes, even tho they are paying for the appropriate data plan already. How crappy.

BINGO!
I saw some awesome plans when I worked in tech and they started converting Alltel customers. No wonder Verizon wants them off those plans. They will lie, cheat and steal to get them off those plans. You know...pretty much business as usual.

How can Verizon limit Facetime because of a legacy data plan when Facetime requires WiFi anyway?

That's the point. It sounds like a scare tactic.

The older plans conatin PRLS that do not have a banner.FaceTime uses the banner to determine if the device is activated on a carrier network. Therefore in the absence of the banner FaceTime will not work.... Ther is a fix rolling outthis week

Turns out there is an issue with legacy plan PRLs, as the iPhone 4 is looking for a banner on the PRL to determine that the device is carrier active but old PRLs are missing the banner, hence no facetime. Fix sending out to effected line today and through the weekend.
