looking for basic phone
She doesn't use camera, text, data services, media player, or really any feature other than a few phone book entries.
In reviewing the phones on VZ website, after eliminating the flip phones, there are only 5 that don't require data plans and all of those have QWERTY keyboards, something she doesn't need or want. So we decided to look for a discontinued phone on eBay.
After using the amazing search engine on this site, I came up with these possibilities:
Motorola SLVR 7c
LG Glance
Also, the DARE, but not sure if she would tolerate a touch screen.
Several reviewe...

In my opinion, both models you're looking at weren't very good. The nav pad DID fall off of the SLVR, as it did on many Motorolas with that type of navigation pad design. But you're also talking about a phone that is painfully slower than what she's currently using. As for the Glance, we didn't sell too many of them. If the joystick-style navigation rocker didn't turn people away (very frustrating for many people), the poor battery life and tiny screen did.
Here's a good way to look at things. The thinner the phone gets, the more sacrifices need to be made. Unless the phone increases in inte...

She decided on the Glance. This phone apparently didn't get a lot of traction, but I attribute that to the fact that it's pretty much bare-bones. Not what most people are looking for. I can't imagine screen size being an issue for someone who doesn't text. We'll see about the audio quality, although several reviewers on eBay commented positively on that. I did see complaints about the joystick. She can always sell it if she's not happy.
Wonder how much her VX8300 might be worth? I'd say it's near mint. Probably not much more than 100 hours use.
She previously ruled out getting another flip phone since she assumed that meant thick. But I found several clamshell models that are considerably thinner than her LG (although not as thin as Glance), and weigh even less than the Glance:
Nokia 2605
Nokia 2705
Samsung U540
Both Nokia models got pretty bad reviews so she's now between the U540 and the Glance. Both are readily available on eBay. The U540 seems to get a lot of complaints about battery life but I can't imagine that would be an issue for her. Ditto with echo problems on speakerphone (she doesn't even k...

I remember going to the test closet and seeing any Samsung phone and just wanting to bash my head into the wall.
So, why has Verizon chosen to ignore these customers? It's not because of a shortage of good feature phones because they being brought to market by a lot of other carriers. Does Verizon just not want the little guys business anymore?
As much as I love Verizon service my v9m is about gone and Verizon does not have a "feature" phone worth looking at. Touch screens are to senstive. The "Ravine" would have been a good phone, but they put the mouth "mic" up at the hinge and nobody can hear you talking plus it is only $179!!!
