Durable Boat, Yard Phone

I've got a Verizon phone (1 of 4) that is now our phone we take kayaking, hiking and other outdoor activities that involve rough use. By rough use I mean banging around, getting splashed, etc. VZW is currently behind the power curve (or is the industry?) in providing a product to fit this purpose. Aside from splash bags, does anyone have any other ideas?

A leather case, just my opinion. Maybe less damage from all the banging around?.. 🙂

The best thing I can tell you to do is;

1. You should have the wireless insurance. It is $6 a month and covers the phone if it gets water damage. There is a $50 deductable but thats less than paying full retail for a replacement phone.

2. At your local VZW store they can order a water tight hard case for your phone. That will give it some more protection. This is not something they have instock. They will need to order it for you. Keep asking if the sales person doesn't seem to know what your talking about. 😎

why dont you just get a cheap phone off of ebay, buy a couple or so, that way when one bites the dust, throw it and grab another ebay cheapy. When you start getting done and replacing your good phones for new ones, keep those for that use, this way, you are not out much if they take a dump, and you have a phone to take with you and it wont hurt so much if you drop it in the water, just an idea....

I believe some of the PTT (Push-To-Talk) models have what are known as 'ruggedized' housings... sort of designed with construction workers dropping them all the time in mind.

You'd still need something like a casing or bag to waterproof them, I believe.

Yes, go to a VZW store and ask to see the Motorola T300 phone. Extremely ruggedized, the phone can be thrown on the floor or off walls. It may not be waterproof, but can surely take a beating.
