I heard a rumor that verizon was gunna buy nextel and then wed end up with ptt using the same numbers with double sim cards or soemthing of the sort... Anyone else hear of this or know if its true?

Don't think its true. Currently, Nextel is in talks to merge with Sprint. But Verizon has already launched its own PTT service with a bunch of new phones.
