So I live nowhere near a 4g area but my phone was stuck on 1x data. i also have an htc incredible and it was still connected to 3g. So i called verizon and they stated there was a 4g outage. i understand that but how does that effect my phone in a 3g area?

It also affected my friend's Samsung 4G Mobile hot spot. After witnessing this sort of thing for two years, I am not surprised when it happens. That's when the money Verizon slurps out of our pockets every month for text messaging and data plans for dumb phones is put to work wisely. Thanks VZW!

I'm still backing the postulate that it was a SIM provisioning issue. I think something happened to the computers controlling the LTE devices and shut down the data authentication.

I doubt the towers ever stopped broadcasting the LTE signal. This had all the signs of a major firmware failure at the central office.
