Location Services
On my Dinc 2 there are three location services; Standalone GPS, Verizon Location Services and Google Location Services. What are the differences between these?

I'm not 100% what or how the Google Location Services work. The Standalone GPS is the actual GPS receiver in the phone which looks at the GPS satellites. This alone can take a bit to get an actual lock, but is very accurate. The Verizon Location Services uses the cellular towers to help triangulate your location. Wifi can also be used to help determine your location from known access points in a public database. All these other things speed up the GPS lock and help the actual GPS to find you quicker.

Thanks for the reply. I wonder how enabling these services impacts battery life? It sounds like the Google and Verizon Location Services are working through the 3G network which of course is already ON, Vs the standalone GPS which uses an additional circuit (and probably more battery). Does that sound right?
There's probably no point in trying to figure out how these services impact privacy, since when you carry a cell phone there isn't any.

If you're not doing something that is using GPS like Google maps or maybe a weather apply determining your location then there will be no affect on battery. I leave mine on all the time and weatherbug or the like will activate and use it for a couple seconds every hour or so but that's the only time it will actually use any battery.
