Right now, I have the crappy samsung n330. I need to upgrade my phone because this phone just plain sucks ass. Im standing still with 5 bars of signal strength then all of a sudden I have no bars left for 3 min. then back to full stregnth. I need something more stable. Now, I heard that the v710 pulls in weak signals with no problem and the E815. But, nobody know when the E815 is coming out. I can wait a couple of more weeks. But its getting to be a pain.

Hey Danthalas...I think I know what the issue is with your N330. Go into "setup", then "network", then "roam option"...see if it's on "Automatic-B"...I bet you it's on "home only"! This seems to be a software flaw with the N330. If you turn the phone off, then back on...it default's back to "home only". If you leave the phone on once you set it to Auto-B, like I leave me phone on 24/7...it stay's there. Currently I have no signal/RF issues, and matter of fact, this phone holds a signal in my apt better for me than my LG-4500 did! What I'm hoping for is that the next software upgrade and/or PRL upgrade will fix the issue. A rep at VZW seems to think it's the way the PRL talks to the phone. I found this out because I sent for another ph...

thanks ! But whats is the difference between A or B ? I thought Home only will be ideal for reception.
Well, I put it on B and Lets see how it goes. Thanks for the info. Besides I think im gonna trade in my n330 because the keypad is too darn small. I text ALOT of messages and it gets to be annoying .
...
Well at least here in California, it should be Auto-B. I guess it's whatever the VZW network talks on?!? (other's correct me please if I'm wrong).
But what I was advised by a tech-rep, if you leave the phone on "home only", it greatly reduces your calling area that the phone can talk on within the network and/or PRL?!? (Again All, correct me.) Anyway, give it a try. But yes, I understand the "small key thing" if you text...which I don't really do. Whatever you do choose, good luck! 🙂

Weel, I live in Bx, NY. I previously had the moto v265. That phone is great I had 5 bars almost every where I went. Since I had a accident. I had to get a replacement. So I opt. for a new phone like this piece of crap samsung n330. I gonna keep trying the other settings, but as of right now, its still the same.

So sorry to hear that! ☹️ I thought for sure it would help! 🤭 It could be from handset to handset, because despite the network roam-option flaw in my phone, as I've said before it holds a signal well...even in my apt. But I like you may be looking for another handset. Even though I'm past my 15-day's, maybe they'll allow me to exchange it for something else due to the problem. I think they still have the V265 @ RS, may look there. Also the new Samsung A570 (flip) is there, but a tad hesitant after my experience with the N330. The only other non-camera I'm interested in is the Kyocera KX-1 (SoHo). Waiting to see other's experience with that. Any idea on what your replacement for the N330 might be? Whatever it is...the best of lu...

im gonna wait for the e815.

From everything I've read, it appears that the E-815 will improve upon the V-710 in many respects. Still, the E-815 won't be trimode like the V-710, which gives me great pause as to whether I should buy the E-815 over the V-710.

Make sure you are not covering the 330 antenna area while you are on the phone. As you know the phone has no external antenna, but rather an antenna area so to speak. Don't block the area
Also, I'm not a phone technician, but as a rule phones don't pull in signals. The FCC regulates that all phones can not exceed .3 watts of transmission. Thats what I've always been told. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. And I might be.

The antenna design does in fact create different cellular patterns. Example, a fixed stubby might work somewhere that an extendable does not, and visversa. I have seen this where I live (mountains) with the V120 and Kyocera 2323. I have a friend that has a V120 and she gets reception at her house and her sister had a 2325 and did not. But when they were at one of their friend's house, it was exactly the opposite.
That being said...Verizon is strickly a B band carrier. Home only will make the phone lose reception if the phone is pulling off a tower that isn't in the SID list for towers. So it might be a VZW tower, but if the phone doesn't see it in the same SID then it will drop the signal.
Yes the holding or touching the ante...

I have the 710 and the 815, and recently used the 8100 for two weeks. There is no question the 815, and the 710, get better signals. There isn`t much analog around here, So. Ct. so the two Motorola phones worked about the same. The 8100 lost calls and the earpiece volume varied a lot-callers complained to me on every call!

Oops! Stand corrected...I meant the V260/262 @ RS, not the V265.

Scan A or Automatic A means your phone will only scan for A-side carriers. A-side is a cellular company that doesn't have any landline service. I believe an example would be T-mobile as they don't offer wireline service, just wireless service. B-side carriers are carriers that have wireline and wireless service (verizon, sprint, etc.). Your phone should be on automatic B. Home only is only going to allow your phone to use your cellular companies towers and no other carrier that they may or may not have an agreement with. A PRL isn't going to help service issues too much. It's going to tell the phone which towers the phone should look for first. PRL's are usually changed to cut costs if one carrier makes an agreement with another carr...

This isn't exactly correct, VZW operates on both A and B depending on which side of the country you happen to live on. Updating the PRL does help with reception when new towers are added and if a PRL has not been updated for a significant amount of time the phone is working harder than it needs to to find a signal.
...
But if the person just got the phone as a replacement...they would have just done the OAP.

my 7000 sometimes does real crappy reception. i wish it had an extendable antenna.

Until about 3 weeks ago I was a VZW rep. In New York you need to have your phone set on Automatic A. The western half of the US operates on B and the Eastern side is A. It's not going to solve all the problems but it should help as much as possible. Also update your PRL by dialing *228 and option 2 after you change the Sytem Select.
...
You say the Eastern half of the US should be set to Autom. A? That would include Illinois I presume. What is the diff. between the two automatic settings. Why are they diff. in east and west US?
...
By the way--when I go into System setup, I get 3 choices, Home, Autom A and Autom B. It displays "Home is B" at the top of this screen.
Should I use B even though I'm in Illinois?
Thanks!
...
I believe Illinois would be B. I'm in Indiana and we are B. I know we are in the I2K West billing system as well. I don't believe we are considered east.
...
In Philly it is B band...we are east coast...

Reception-wise, most Motos are pretty good, Nokias too, so are most Samsungs EXCEPT the 330.
LGs are not so good, ditto Audiovox, Kyoceras are ok, not great

😁 I bought my Motorola E815 on July 5. Left Phoenix and drove south of New Orleans, LA. Over 1,600 miles each way and encountered only 2 "dead" spots on my E815. Happy to say everyone could hear me all the way there since there was a hurricane called Dennis coming our way !!!

The LG 3200/3300 has AWESOME signals! It will work where no other phone will. I've seen it over and over again.
