Verizon is going to take away its unlimited data plan effective tomorrow, July 7th. I am ready to buy the iPhone and stay with Verizon IF their iPhone allowed the same flexibility as the AT&T version, but no...because the phone is a CDMA handset, it won't talk and surf at the same time. That really pisses me off. The biggest company in the country can't get Apple to tumble and allow an LTE iPhone to be used on their network. Verizon is still the most reliable system out there, and the unlimited data is a real advantage, but the handset...damn! I know there are other phones on Verizon's service that will do what I want, but it's an iPhone after-market out there. I have a surround-sound system that allows the iPhone to be used on a docki...

Wow really? It has nothing to do with the iphone. 4G service cost more to maintain hence the teired data prices. As far as the talk n surf goes only 5 some percent of people actually care bout that so sorry if your in that small percentile. FYI you are grandfathered into the unlimited data if you already have it. Maybe you just work at atnt and your trying to be a hater?!? Can you please explain why you need to surf and talk at the same time? It would be nice maybe once or twice a year i wish i could do it but it's only once or twice so who gives a turd.

If 4G service cost more to maintain, there wouldn't be a push to launch it. Sprint wouldn't offer unlimited 4G service while capping 3G service. What are your sources for network cost?

My account rep is my source. So by your logic if a system cost more to maintain but also makes your network better you sould'nt bring it to life? Also sprint does not have 4g. It's more like 3.5 .

LTE and WiMax are both 4G standards according to the US industry. Neither actually meets the standard of 4G.

I'm in consumer electronics, but not cellular, though. If I worked for AT&T, it would be very likely I would already have the iPhone. I don't have a data plan, and my text messaging is blocked. I currently use a Samsung Renown. I talk. Why do I need to text and surf at the same time? Because IF I want to do it, I have the ability to do so. If I'm going to pay for a data plan, then, dammit, I want what the technoversion logy allows. I live in a large metro area, travel very little in contrast to my time in my home area, and after AT&T gets the T-Mobile footprint, it will rival what Verizon currently has. As I said, I want ONE DEVICE to do what I want. I could go out and buy an iPod today if I wanted, but I want the music in the phon...

No. It won't. I'm a well known Verizon hater but let's be real. AT&T isn't gaining any footprint from the T-Mobile acquisition. Their footprint is just fine right now. You can go to them tomorrow and I doubt you will find them wanting. I mean really it's the difference between twelve inches and ten. Why everyone feels the need to make a grand gesture about switching carriers is beyond me. You sound like a commercial and THAT is why you get accused of being a covert employee. You're leaving. We get that. I wish more people would leave Verizon. *Bleep* 'em.

...he does. Don't get me wrong. Going to AT&T to get something Apple could have built into the current CDMA iphone merely by using one chip for voice and the other for data like HTC did with the Thunderbolt seems silly but not to this guy.

After reading some of the responses, I am reminded how reps for different companies, support their company no matter what...So here is a non biased opinion on Verizon's new data plans...

They are very expensive..I don't see how you can really argue that. As with just about every thing else with Verizon, it is just plain more expensive than most of the others. People who work for VZ want to justify it by saying "oh it is to put money back into the network", which I am sure is partially true (there has to be money reinvested into new towers, maintenance, 4G, etc). But to act like some of this isn't greed (VZ knowing that they can charge what they want because they are still getting the customers anyway) is being so naive, or blindly loy...

I'm an ancient 'VZW' customer from GTE & StarTac days. I follow this site, amongst many, for trends. The coming data plans are money related. Getting more money. Lots. At the moment, most smart phone users will be 'comfortable' with the 'new' 2G ($30) mo. plan. This comfort will be short lived due to the inevitable shift to 'cloud' data storage & transfer. The bean counters have predicted this (o.k, they don't have to be very astute to figure this out).) Figure on moving up to the $80 (10GB) plan, or sticking with a flip-phone. Hey, don't be so cheap!

...what you're saying is that Surf and Talk is more important to you than Unlimited Data. Because you have ONE DAY to get unlimited data. After that...it's all over. Think about it. Suddenly they are going to launch all types of applications that will burn through data and you will be capped.
