It doesn't matter whether it's the original Motorola Droid, LG Ally, or the Samsung Droid Charge, ALL give me the same problem that when I press the home button all the icons, shortcuts, and folders dissapear, and don't reapear for at least 15 seconds or so, it's very, very frustrating, and it happens frequently too!
Am I the only person this happens to?

It is called Redraw. Just about every Android phone suffers this.
One solution (if you feel comfortable) is to root your device. Most good Devs adjust the redraw in their roms to lessen and sometimes even remove the redraw all together.

Why the heck hasn't Google attempted a fix at this?!!!? It's been happening for at least 3 different versions Android, 2.0, 2.1, and 2.2
It's really, really frustrating!

the default RAM management in Android doesn't lock the home screen in memory, so if you go long enough/enough apps between home screen visits, it has to reload it.
I have never had it take 15 seconds, even on a the G1, though. Usually takes a couple seconds tops... but rarely do I have this issue since I almost always run rooted, customer ROM and custom Kernel, with the homescreen locked in memory.

5 different Android devices and have never had that happen. It would be very frustrating and strange that it's happening across devices.

Oh yeah!!! Verrry frustrating indeed!

Oh,. . .well lucky you. You and Menno's smartphones always seem to run perfectly.

It doesn't mean its perfect every time. I had all the reset and GPS issues with my TBolt, until the recent software fix.
