Moral Dilema....

Ok guys, the secret is coming out....I currently work for T-Mobile, and have been so for almost 2 years. Unfortunately I'm not quite content with my present job and call center situation (a lot of us aren't). I 've been looking around for another job the past couple of weeks...I still think T-Mobile is a great company, but alas I applied with verizon and got a call the next day, and have been through one interview already in which I met the store manager and they asked me in for a second interview on Friday. I know the job is mine if I want it (they said literally "we want you!" ) So, here I am facing a tough choice for 3 reasons. I'd be leaving T-Mobile, a company that for the most part has been very good to me, and the position is only Pa...

I hate to say it, but I'm thinking of doing the same thing. I am truly dedicated to my job and to the company I work for, which is Cingular. I'm not going to start a flame war with the reasons I like Cingular and what I can and cannot do with my phone, but I do prefer them over any other carrier I have used before I became an employee. The problem is, I know I can make more money at Verizon. I know GSM almost like the back of my hand but am limited as to what I know about CDMA. I'll learn that, but I need more money, and from reading post on this site Verizon seems to pay the best... I have a friend that just left the call center we work for and went to a Verizon store and says he likes and they started a few dollars more an hour than what w...

I drive for a little under and hour to get to the Verizon Wireless call center that I work at.

On the way, about three blocks from my home, I pass a brand new Verizon Wireless retail store.

I long for the day that I can work there in the retail store. So close to home. Don't have to deal with esacalatons via the phone. Life would be good.

I'd take it.

Just remember, in a call center, you and your upset customers are seperated by MILES...in a store, by INCHES.

Oh, I dunno...people respond better to my evil look of death in person than over the phone.

I think working in a call center vs retail is completely dependant on personal preference. Some people like the pace of the stores, whereas myself, 😁 I LOVE MY JOB 😁 !! I work in the call center and I couldn't be happier. This is my third call center job, and hands down, VZW is the best company I've EVER worked for! Over the holidays this year, I also worked 32 hours of OT in four retail stores around my town. Comparing the two (based on my limited time in the store), I'd definately choose the call center. But again, that's just me! 😉

You might want to be aware that the Verizon retail sales metrics requirements are BRUTAL, and they WILL fire you if you miss any of them a couple of months in a row. I know it used to be that they required 125% data attachment rate, and 3.5 accessories per handset sold. Also, 40% of the rate plans you sell must be above $39.99, or something like that. These numbers may be a little dated, but they are coming from my Verizon territory rep when I used to be indirect. He was in the retail store, and he said sometimes he actually had to resort to telling people that if they didn't buy this or that he might be fired. Yes, the money is good, but is it worth it? Why not work T-Mobile retail?

Honestly, I've been offered positions within T-Mobile with product development, retail, and business support...The problem is our F***ked up call center politics. Shrinkage, attrition, etc...everytime I get an interview, it is stopped and never do I get a reason. The people on the other end just stop talking to me. When I ask my boss about it, he says "oh yeah we encourage our employees to experience different aspects of T-Mobile, fill out an internal candidate form etc..." but it's funny how my onevoice password always needs to be changed, and getting another password takes them 3 weeks to get to me, when it's supposed to be immediately.

It urks me that when my call center Senior manager says he's following up with something, saying he'...

Wow!

That sounds bad. You really need to get outta there. It sucks that your management team is keeping you from moving up in the company. I work on the Retail side of T-Mobile and absolutely love my job!

The pay is good. Management really takes care of us, and the only stress I have is trying to decide what to have for lunch!

I do know that before you can transfer from one division or another there has to be approval from your manager and their manager. It sounds like you have been given a job, but held back by your manager (maybe because you are the only one not on an action plan....catch 22).

Good luck. I am sure you'd do great on the retail side with all you know!

I think it's your call center, dude, it isn't nearly that draconian at mine, and QA tends to have different opinions about stuff depending on who's doing the auditing and that "95%" calibration thing is a bit of a joke...

I'd like to know how things go for you, I actually work at a RadioShack Store, as I'm sure most of you know, we sell Verizon and Sprint as well as some other pre-paid options, and I'm considering moving to a direct Verizon store. So let us know how it turns out for you if you decide to go with Verizon. 🙂

Hey. I'm a fairly new Verizon employee at the Columbia call center. So far so good. I love it. The pay and benefits are great. I'd encourage you to take the VZW job. I knew a little about the great benefits before I got there. But my first day in orientation & the following weeks, I was overwhelmed with information and how great the benefits are. Everyone (more seasoned VZW employees) that came in and introduced themselves, were reps just like us and now they are trainers, associate directors, coordinators, IT people, Quality Control, etc. The time in title at the contact center is 9 months, then you can self promote to senior rep. After that, the sky's the limit! You just have to want it bad enough! Come on OVER!!!

I'm a customer service rep in a retail store and I LOVE it! While I dont make a commission in my position, I am paid well and the opportunity for advancement is great. I have just applied for Assistant Manager after less than a year in my store. Mind you, I had absolutely NO wireless experience outside of having a cell phone before i got the job with Verizon. It really is a good company to work for. The metrics are tough for sales reps, but it's not that much higher than most companies anymore. No matter where you go, sales is cutthroat and you have to work hard. Word of advice...keep up on 5-star (re-signing existing customers), it will definately help your metrics. Let me know how it goes! Hope you decide to join us!

EVERYONE i talk to loves their verizon phone. I have Cingular and the coverage in my area is horrible, im always roaming and get horrible quality. I was wondering if Verizon will be getting any new smaller phones. The LX and Motorolas are nice but so big. I have the Samsung e317 which is similar to the A670 in size, any new ones coming out soon?
