Considering a mobile hotspot
OK, long story short, I'm a college student in Orlando (UCF to be specific, over 55,000 students 😳 ). I have AT&T now with my iPhone, and have no problem saying that the service at school sucks monkeys as far as data speeds go. There are so many kids with iPhones it's ridiculous. And the school Wi-Fi is slow as a slug slithering through syrup in the dead cold of January. I'm talking 5 minutes to load a page, if it loads, at lunch hour.
So, AT&T is out for a hotspot since it would have to be an LTE hotspot to be on a separate network from 3G/HSPA+, which are both bogged down. And no LTE service where I am, or anywhere right now.
So, I have a few questions for you Verizon peoples!

It sounds like you'd blow through your data allowance on Verizon. You need to consider this first and foremost.
The return policy at Verizon is 14 days. It's called their "Worry Free Guarantee." As far as discounts go, just ask at a Verizon store.
Verizon LTE is FAST, there's no denying it. If you're not going to go over your plan or money is no object you can't go wrong there.
Some alternatives in and around UCF are Sprint's WiMax or T-Mobile's HSPA+ networks. Sprint regularly gave me 4 Mbps with bursts above 6 in the middle of the night. The nice part is the fact that it's unlimited while on 4G.
T-Mobile won't charge overage but will slow you down at 2GB, 5GB, or 10GB depending on plan. Real world speeds are in the 6 M...

Thanks for the prompt reply. Data caps aren't a big deal for me, if things work out I'll have some friends helping with the bill. I'll check out Sprint too. Not too keen on T-Mobile, not only because of the merger but I don't like the idea of throttling speeds on a mobile hotspot.

yea if you want sprint, they generally have school discounts, but you have to sign up a specific way, my bro in law goes to UCF also...lol Graphics stuff. Live in s altmonte springs. 2-3 MB is fine, streams fine downlods fast enough for what you use. If school requires streaming make sure to go unlimited, sprint has the 30 day garuntee where you pay nothing if you have to cancel in that 30 day period (minus any overage or intl usage...lol)

I'm looking at the Sprint plans now, they say 3GB/Unlimited, 5GB/Unlimited, 10GB/Unlimited, by what I'm reading the first number is a 3G data cap, while the Unlimited is for 4G speeds. Is that right?
