Is it the the same thing Verizon used to do, then decided to screw us all and switch it for a while? something like this - "I see you're on the 450 plan but you've used 850 minutes and you'd like to switch to the 900 minute plan. Since we are now prorated, I'll have to switch you to the 6000 minute plan and you should end up with enough space to make a 5 minute call in the next 5 days". Is there a pay phone around and do you have a roll of quarters? We bill in advance too, so next month's bill should be about $600 ($850 with taxes, surcharges etc)"

Man those were the days. I worked for a different carrier at the time and customers would always come in near the end of their billing cycle and see what their usage was. If they were over their minutes we would simply up their plan and it backdated to the begining of their bill cycle - like they had been on the plan the whole month. Not too many upset customers over billing issues with this.

on the old ATTWS TDMA some would complain about backdating because they wanted the change be for the next month not the current. or if they were canceling and riding out their contract wanted us to backdate and if they went over then want a re-rate.

Plans can be backdated, future dated to the beginning of the next bill cycle, or the change can be made on demand (with partial charges on the next bill). Whatever works best for the customer.

Backdating went away because the billing systems changed. Action had the ability to backdate but didn't have the capability to grow. They chose Vision as the new system and it's done very well. While it did take a few years, it's back.

People will still complain though. You still have to call to get it changed. You still have to know how many minutes you've used. Verizon could offer free cell service and people would complain about the coverage, it doesn't matter.
