Family Plan vs. Individual Plans

I need some quick advice: I was able to get a corporate discount and I activated today. It was my understanding that the discount would apply to my primary line as well as the 2nd line for my wife (we took out the 700 minute plan for $69.99). Verizon CS informed me I only get the discount on the primary line - I just want to be sure that is correct. If so, would it make more sense to take out two individual plans 450 minutes at $39.99 - as CS informed me I would get the discount off of both plans - plus she informed me on the new phone every two years on the family plan just pertains to the primary phone - but if I had two individual plans then the deal is for both phones.

Is there any reason I should stick to the family plan as opposed ...

But is there any advantage/disadvantage to going with the family plan over two individual plans (or vice-versa)?

The biggest advantage to the share plan is how your minutes are used. On 2 single lines (450 each) your 2nd line could use 100 minutes (leaving 350 minutes) and you could use 500 minutes (over by 50 minutes) and you incur overages totaling $22.50 (50 minutes @ $.45/minute). Whereas on a share plan you would have not gone over and not incurred the extra charge. My suggestion would be to evaluate HOW you are going to use your minutes and which plan would work best. Also remember this on the share plan your primary line has a higher service charge ($60) and the secondary is $9.99. Lets say for the sake of argument your discount is 8%. On a share plan you would pay $65.19 per month before taxes and additional features ($60-8%=$55.20+$9.99)...

Sharing minutes is the only advantage. If your wife uses less minutes then you and you use more then 450, then family share would make sense for you even with the discount.

Thank you for your response. I see your point. I guess in the perfect world if each person uses around 400 minutes monthly then the individual plans are more beneficial while if one uses 200 minutes and the other uses 500 minutes then the family plan is the way to go.

How much weight should I put on this "new phone every 2 years"? With the two individual plans we would get two new phones and with the family plan I presume we get just one.

I don't think you should put too much weight on the ne2 for the following reason:

for your ne2, you will receive up to a $100 credit towards the purhcase of a new phone on the primary line on the account. and there is always a buy one get one free offer.

lemme give you an example. say if your ne2 was up today. under the current promotions, you would pay $50 for a moto 815 ($149.99 - 99.99 ne2) and pay $50 for a moto 265 (because if you purchase an 815 you get a 265 free after mail in rebate). then you would receive a total of 2, $50 rebates. Essentially both phones would be free for you after mail in rebate.

i wouldn't worry too much about the ne2. all you need to do is work the sales
