Any call center reps?
I am curious how other centers work than my own. As a general rule, if you are scheduled 2 to 11 you must be at work around 10 minutes early to log in to your computer and be ready to clock in at 2 to take calls. So basically you are being required to work 10 minutes before your shift unpaid, which seems unfair and unethical
Is this the norm for all VZW call centers?

I work for a Maytag Call Center. We are allowed to clock in 6 minutes prior to the start of our shift or 6 minutes late without an occurence. I am almost positive that a company cannot require you to be present without paying you. For examply they MUST pay you for mandatory meetings that do not fall within your work schedule.

I work for an outsource. We used to have to be here 10 mins before shift but then our company was sued for making employees work without pay so now we log in at scheduled time and have 10 mins exempt to bring up systems

I have to be clocked in by at least 5 after shift start. I usually get here a couple mins early to have all my systems going by the time I clock in, but if I don't make it I clock in and then bring everything up. Doesn't take but a couple of mins to get everything up and start taking calls. But if I were required to be here early, then I would make sure I was getting paid for it.

Log into your phone and immediately go into your voice mail or personal time. It will show you as being there on time. If you get hasseled by anyone make them give you the policy in writing and contact OSHA or the Dept of Labor. I get yelled at for finishing up notes while going into breaks and doing my follow ups in the few minutes before I get to work sometimes. Getting follow ups done early and not getting paid is fine with me since it just means I get a longer "break" from working when my i-time comes around.
