"The RadioShack Corporation Selects Cingular Wireless and Sprint PCS
as Long-Term Wireless Partners
Agreements Strengthen RadioShack's Position in Wireless Industry

Fort Worth, Texas – July 31, 2005 – RadioShack Corporation (NYSE: RSH) today announced that it has entered into 10-year and 11-year agreements, respectively, with Cingular Wireless and Sprint PCS to be the company's long-term wireless providers in RadioShack stores nationwide. Cingular and Sprint have also committed to support RadioShack Corporation's strategy of expanding retail distribution outside of the core RadioShack stores.

RadioShack's new agreement terms with Cingular and Sprint a...

Goodbye and good riddance! One less indirect to confuse and misslead our customers.

Do you think this has anything to do with Verizon now having company-owned stores inside of all Circuit City stores? With this arrangement, Verizon still controls all new customer contracts and customer service issues. That seems like a great move---Verizon-owned, conveniently located inside Circuit City. Seems like a good fit for both. I think that makes a lot more sense then having Radio Shack or Best Buy selling Verizon Phones and service on their own.

Best Buy and Circuit City always did a great job for us (SunCom/AT&T) but Radio Shack with few exceptions did not do a good job of educating the new customer on either the equipment or the plans. I think Radio Shack got the carriers they deserve.

Nice answer. Little do you know Verizon is in one of the biggest growth periods of new agent locations in their history.

This decision is horrible!! I have spoken with five managers that s**t themselves when they got the news. We built our business on Verizon, and in the last 2 years using LNP to migrate ATT/Cingular to Verizon. This decision moves me from selling the carrier with the best coverage in my area to selling the second worse. I expect my sales of Sprint to go through the roof, since I will not offer Cingular to anybody.

I expect your job security to disappear if you don't sell what Radioshack tells you to sell. And btw, Cingular has been sold by Radioshack for a few years now in areas with no Verizon and they sell quite well. This has alot to do with why the change was made.
If my suspicions are correct, you are a salesman and will do what all salesmen do: sell the product to make money.

Which is why the indirect agents (non CC or BB) are the real way to go. With sales in any of the big guys, it always appears that they just sell what is best for the store and move on the next customer. The problem you have with that is reputation. A local business owner that is an agent would be more likely to turn down a sale that is not good for the customer because of reputation.

Someone said something about good bye to another indirect that only confuses the customer. What about Verizon themselves? They will put up promos that no agent could think of touching. I cannot sell a free phone on a secondary upgrade with a BOGO. Say a customer is buying two phones, they are both eligible for upgrades (existing customer). VZW will o...

AMEN! I just with we could get all the customers to understand this. Something that drives me crazy is a customer that goes out and buys their phone somewhere else and then turn around and come to me for help when they can't figure something out. It just doesn't make sense. Oh well... I help them anyway in hopes that they will come to me next time and pass on the good word. 🙂

Verizon does like to shaft us here and there though. The $9.99 share lines have really hurt us. And now the COOP on those lines has gone down as well. ☚ī¸

I agree 100%! VZW indirects are what holds the company together, indirects sell more phones than the corp stores do just because there is so many more of us. Without us VZW would be in trouble.

Man you are right on about Verizon.

But obviously know nothing about RadioShack. You think that every indirect seller is god or something and any big company is bad. I know and will always know more about Verizon and Sprint then you ever will. It is the same reason why you know more about Verizon than your friend does. Cell phones are my passion. But cellphones are only your passion because you make money off of them. They are your bread and butter. Yes I get paid to sell phones but it isn't my bread and butter. I love cellphones just because they are what they are. Cutting edge technology. I am sure they are many people who work at indirect sellers whom are just like your friend. They only sell cellphones to make money. I alway...

That isn't true for everyone. I know a heck of a lot about Verizon. I for one stay up on everything and know what is coming and going and how things work. I'm also in it for more than the money. Of course I own the business so it is how I make my money but Verizon isn't the only portion of my business. I like my customers and I like to help them and give them what they want. That's how you get a customer to come back. It all works hand in hand.

But to say you know more then me..well who knows...LOL

But the whole big business thing...ok here is an example. WalMart ran an ad for the "appreciating the small businesses day" and talked about how WalMarts and Sams clubs help the small businessman because they can provide them with more purchasing power! LOL I about choked. Walmart is all about putting the little guys out of business. They have been guilty many times and caught at predatory pricing. Seeing what the locals are selling an item for and undercutting them even if it means losing on that item because it will put the small guy out of business and then they can jack the price up higher...and not to mention that losing on an item doesn't hurt them because they have enough ...
