I had been looking at the LG 4500, and see its been discontinued. Can one buy a model thats been discontinued and still get it activated thru Verizon?

Sure you can get it activated, but you DO NOT want that phone. It was crap. I couldn't tell you how many returns and problems I've had with it. Just FYI!

STAY AWAY!

Same thing here, tons of problems.

If you must get an LG go with the 6100.

My recomendation is the e815 though.

Best out in my opinion, unless you need analog, then get the v710. But i gather you didn't since your request was for the all digital 4500

Ive heard the same problems with the 4500, however Ive had it for almost 2 years now and absolutly LOVE it, it is my all time favorite phone, and I have not had a single problem with it, and im pushing 3000 minutes a month so I know its not from lack of testing.

There were alot of quality problems with the VX4500 and I believe it depended on the factory the phone was being made in.

I could tell you which VX4500 was going to be a problem simply by the quality of the screen. Many, MANY of the 4500's had semi-fuzzy screens. You know the kind, they look like they have too much facial oil on the screen when it is clean. Others had bright, crisp, sharp screen resolutions. The fuzzy screens ALWAYS came back with problems such as signal loss, dropped calls or my all time favorite "Service Required."

A good replacement is the VX4650. It gives you all the same features of the VX4500, a MUCH BETTER speakerphone, and it uses the new universal battery that all the LG's are switching to. It is also tri-mode...

The only problem I have seen with the 4500 is the occasional speaker going out, I have not seen a 4500 with the "fuzzy" screen you are refering to.

Yes the 4650 is a great phone, I just like the menu set up better on the 4500, im sure it is just because I am more comfortable with it since I have used it for so long.

I actually had a 8100 for a couple of weeks and had no real problems with it, but I still switched back to the 4500 because I just liked it better.

I also have a 8000 that is SUPER, I love it like a son, the camera is GREAT and definatly beats the 8100 hands down.

Thanks everyone. Interesting feedback. I am not dead set on the 4500, just that has it support for a blind user. A friend of mine who is blind loves hers. I do wish most phones did not have the flat buttons, they are not easy for a blind person to navigate. Cant recall the brand/model, but one phone (Audiovox?)I looked at last year was perfect. Yet Verizon pulled it weeks later, it apperently putsold everything else.

I have a LG 4500 phone which I don't use anymore. I used it for a while, mainly for the speakerphone. I just keep it around for backup. A phone like the 4650 would be a big improvement.
You can activate any phone on Verizon, even old discontinued models. It's easy to do it online by yourself if you set up an on-line acct.
If you really want that phone for some reason, (sentimental or otherwise) or don't want to have to pay a lot for a new phone, or getting prepaid plan, I'd gladly just give you my old phone, maybe just pay shipping, as I don't use it. I don't expect I ever will
But, like I say, it's not as good as some of the newer LG's.
